SteamCity

Concept of an old steam punk city, full of activities, sadness, pollution and heavy saturated atmosphere, but the sunlight can pierce this steam to bring something warm and sweet!

SteamCity has great flow and composition. The arrangement of the buildings and urban spires enable me to imagine that I'm actually there. And I would feel murky and gritty. The sky juts through the smoke and steam in a refreshing way (which makes the piece have a warmth it otherwise wouldn't have).
The environment obscures light and distance appropriately. The buildings in the background are hazed over and I get a good feel of distance because of this as well.
The foreground could use a bit more attention, as it falls a bit flat and it seems as though the perspective is a bit off (see the bridge and the water beneath as an example).
I docked this piece for originality a bit but I understand that it's an environmental concept and I've probably seen a million of these types of drawings for inspiration. And pure originality probably isn't the goal here anyway. Your idea translated well and overall I think this is good work.

Thanks for the critique!
Yeah, Foreground wasn't my priority, I spent much more time on many background layer... I use to work with FG, MG1, MG2, BG. But with this one, I had more than 6 or 7 layers^^
Again, that stuff with that water... Actually, it isn't water, but... Okay, I understand you think it is. Obviously, water would be really more reflective and different I guess.
Well, thanks again, it's much appreciated

Incredibly well done!
The overall picture looks nice, you give the viewer a very easy way to understand the picture in the artists comments. The half pencil-like half digital feel about the way you drew it makes it look sketchy, and somehow like a 'vision'.
You succeeded very well in making it seem polluted and 'dirty', the smoke isn't completely realistic, but i dont think it really does anything bad to the piece, nor the way you look at it.
The small bits of light, i think, should be more saturated - but only if its just me who've misinterpretted the picture, and thought that the smoke doesn't cover all of the city.
If the smoke and 'pollution' is all over the city (Kinda like a fog) then i think the lights is incredibly well done, because then they really show that this city is NOT clean.
I also very much like the steampunk feel, the gears and london-like feeling in here, and i can just imagine how life would be in this city - in this 'world'.
The only thing i dont think is incredibly succesful, would be the water. It seems to flow somehow askance in a way that seems unrealistic. If you could just, y'know, 'tip' it a little, then it would seem loads better!
But its not too necessary, its just me going into details <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/w/w…" width="15" height="15" alt="

Hey, thanks a lot! Glad to read your nice critique!
Yeah, I tried to give some effect of saturated air with the lights
I agree with the last point, but that is not supposed to be water.. I wanted to at first, but after, that was looking too natural, so I changed it into a kind of empty place for water, but without water anymore and full of trashes. It's not very well done in this size, but if you see the big size, you would realize
Thanks again!

This is a great piece. Your detail is impeccable and the originality of this piece is the highlight. Instead of a roughly done concept or obvious gold steam punk look you went for a highly detailed reality steam punk. The smoke and texture add a little spice but nothing is overdone which can be hard to accomplish for many people. The only thing I think could make this more conceptually strong is if the light were coming from the foreground but the darkness of the buildings still showed through. I feel like a lot of the detail is hiding in the back and it would be interesting to see a different version showcasing your detail up close and personal.
Im jealous of your skillz. Keep it up<img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/c/c…" width="20" height="20" alt="

very interesting piece that I found on #getwatchers. I found it drawing me in. The smoke makes it seem almost like a photo, and I found it quite intriguing that the opposite of my expectations was done: dark shadows in the foreground, with lighter detailing in the background. This is the reverse of what is commonly done, and it adds quite a bit to the piece.
The only part I found difficult is the water under the bridge: doesn't seem to flow under, but up to instead. can you dim the par or shadow it under the bridge to give it depth?

Thanks a lot for your critique!
Glad you like this piece!!
As I said to answer an other one :
