Shark Bunny by NateHallinanArt Shark Bunny by NateHallinanArt
A recently confirmed photograph of the rare Shark Bunny (Carcharhinus Lepus) in captivity. These deceptively lethal creatures can be found in southern subtropical regions in shallow flowing freshwater; streams and rivers relatively close to the ocean.

Locals of various regions shared their name for the partially terrestrial shark, the rough translation of which meant "leaping death." Western explorers initially thought it to be a creature of myth used as a lesson to scare small children from wandering off around water. However, the truth of this creature would ultimately be stranger than fiction.

Like most sharks, the Shark bunny is a carnivore. Utilizing an ambush style of attack; it will leap out of the water, bite down on exposed flesh of an unwitting prey, and promptly shake its entire body in order to literally saw off large chunks of flesh. The entire incident happens within seconds. Before the victim even realizes what has occurred, the shark bunny will have escaped back into the water with its morsel.

Very interesting concept!  I like how you turned the flippers into the legs for it.
My one thing with this is mostly something I remembered my character design professor in college talking about. Right now it still looks a little too much like some one just grafted ears and legs onto a shark, made a homunculus, rather than this creature being a true hybrid/new species.  I think subtle changes in the body part of the shark would help with this. Such as the nose being a little flatter and rounder, or the tip pushed downward a bit further and a bit more of a slope to the forehead up to where the ears connect, suggesting again a bit more rabbit in the design.  The shape can be changed subtly with out losing much suggestion of a shark's swimming speed, or that it's based on a great white.  The belly area could be modified a bit as well to better suggest a creature constructed not only for swimming but also for hopping.
Your works is always super amazing, so these are just some ideas for if you wanted a more merged looking creature.
And I have to say, the hopping pose is cute as hell, so is it's pudgy little butt in the rear sitting pose, though I still wouldn't want to put my hand near its face.

Thank you for the critique. I appreciate the comments and I agree with some of what you said had the intent been to create a truly merged creature. In fact, I’ve taught a couple courses at CGSociety on creature design and techniques on how to create convincing hybrid characteristics. I actually created this piece for my significant other and was for more for a laugh. (inside joke)

I know you intended well and I highly encourage helping others, (it will only improve your own understanding to things even further when you have to teach them) but (if you're open to some critique yourself) I would suggest sticking to critiquing people who solicit it. That way you're not wasting time giving time/energy/advice on ears that aren’t necessarily open to what you're offering. Not saying I'm not open, it was just info I was already familiar with, but didn't really need for the purposes of this work. Thanks again.

Okay.  That's why I tried to leave it open ended as well, just in case your intent wasn't going for a more merged version because that possibility crossed my mind as well.
I had a feeling you probably knew of those sorts of things, considering the level of your design capabilities.  I pointed it out more for the sake that even fabulous writers need editors, some times things slip by us or we just didn't think of it, no matter how much time we spent working on it. I've had a couple of instances of one of my friends pointing out something I did or did not do in a drawing that I had not even noticed, such as forgetting to draw the bottom of a sword pommel under a character's hand.  So, I hope it didn't come off as presumptuous or anything, I merely meant it as a gesture of having another pair of detail oriented eyes, as well as trying to say something more than just a 'wow, awesome' or 'That is really good.'

It can be at times hard to tell who is and who is not open to advice or suggestion. Some times the people you think would really appreciate it because they look like they are still trying to grow and you might be able to give them a tip to save them some time and stress turn on you instead. Or those you think are beyond your skill level and likely wouldn't' want anyone pointing out something they noticed would actually give anything to have more people actually say something constructive about their work, rather than always the same short praises they usually get, but they do not flag for critique for one reason or another.  I don't flag most of my own work for critiques anymore because nothing ever came of doing so anyhow.
