The Derelict by Natashane The Derelict by Natashane
Something I've done during my lunch breaks at work, speed painting took me a couple of hours.

I might be a little excited about the new film ;P

All done in Photoshop using a Wacom tablet.

I've been infatuated with the Alien Derelict spacecraft since seeing it for the first time in the original film.  You captured it superbly.

I've actually lost count on how many I've watched the series! (Apart from Alien 4 *cringes*)... Loooove Xenomorphs

Yeah, me too. I have to say that Aliens (part 2, but of course you knew that) is my favorite of the series. I actually own a copy of "The Colonial Marines Technical Manual." I also own a copy of "Prometheus the Art of the Film." Look at me dropping names!

Ahh yea I got the Prometheus Art Of book for my husband :D And he got me the 'Alien Vault' which has ton's of behind the scenes of the first film, including samples of scripts, photography and storyboard samples. I actually used it a lot of understand storyboarding more. Ridley's way of working is amazing! (plus he also shares the same theory as me - that artists work a little better under the influence of a glass of red wine :D) you should definitely check it out if you haven't already! Also have you read any of the Alien Omnibus's?? They are really cool! Though the first one is a little odd as it continues after the second film, all the other stories are original and experiment with a lot of origins of the Xenomorphs and how people on Earth deal with their discovery *geeking out!* >.<;;

I also have a bunch of Giger's art books too ._.

I do really love Cameron's film, it was the first one I watched (when I was 8 years old >.>;..) but I find the performances in Ridley's film pretty much perfect (nothing has beaten John Hurts chest burster scene for me!), plus the lighting and camera angles are beautiful. I know Cameron adapted that feel to his films, and you can really see the influence in the sewers with Newt, which makes it a perfect sequel to a perfect movie =w=

Hey! You dropped a lot more names than I did!

I'll have to check "Alien Vault." My issue with red wine & art is that I tend to drink more than draw.

I haven't read any Alien Omnibus. I'm not a big fan of the Alien comic books. I'd like to read the first one since it continues after part 2. The reason I'm a big fan of "Aliens" is I 1st watched it while I was in the Army with some of my buddies. We loved Bishop and his short timer's attitude.

Ooooh you have sentimental values? It's also a very good film anyway! >: P What other films did you watch in the Army?

Bishop is so awesome, I love his character, and how he helped Ripley's fear of Androids after the fun and games with Ash trying to mouth-rape her with a magazine :(

Are you a big horror fan then? :D

Aw hell, I watched a lot of films while I was in the army. I saw the original "Evil Dead" 1 & 2 at least six time s apiece! I am a big horror fan.

Ahhh I love those films!

You can't beat the oldies! Like Nightmare on Elm Street. Texas Chainsaw Massacre, or Hellraiser, so many awesome films with great special effects *goes all gooey* I wana watch them again this Halloween!

Though I also like things that are a bit more 'on the edge'. One of my all-time favourites is 28 days later, I am a big sucker for zombie films...(Though technically 28 Days later aren't zombies >.>) Have you seen an amazing Spanish horror film called [REC]? There's an American version called Quarantine, but nothing beats the original. Or the original 'Let the Right One In' which is also amazing!

I've just realised how much I am geeking-out right now ._.;; SORRY!

You're killing me with the great work! I really feel like I'm the only one on the planet with this ship when I look at this. There is a silence you've captured here. Not a good place to be. Like a great pic of a haunted house kinda. Ya know? Silent, creepy, bad place to be. Oh, and yeah, can't wait for the movie!

Well you're killing me with all these nice comments! I don't think we are going to last the rest of the week at this rate...

Have you not seen the movie yet? I watched it on Saturday :D oh boy! I won't say anything apart from I am planning to see it again soon. And I would recommend you watching it in IMAX and 3D if possible. That's what we did and it is well worth the extra cash to do so, just shot so beautifully and you get to appreciate all the effort put into it! Ah Ridley! You bring pure joy to my heart!

Ah, you're in the UK right? Not in the US until this Friday, here in Florida anyway. I will be going IMAX 3-D all the way. I saw the trailer in 3-D when I saw Avengers and almost died. just the trailer for Prometheus was my money right there. And then I saw a superhero movie. Hahaha!

Your work deserves all the praise it has from those who have seen it. Inspiring work. Can't wait to see more!

Going to try and see it tonight. Checking out times now for when I get out of work this evening. Hoping to get out early and beat the crowds. More than anything I have to have the middle for the 3D. Not sure how people sit to the side or bottom for a 3D flick? I saw a spoiler-ish clip of something somewhere I was not searching for that bothered me. Years ago I worked in a toy store and this cat walks in and jiggles the Jango Fett figure around and says to me, "I don't think his head comes off like in the movie." AOTC was not even out yet and I was beyond pissed. So while I am looking forward to new work of yours based on Prometheus I appreciate you waiting a bit!

Oh that sucks, I hate it when people give spoilers....something recently happened like that with Game of Thrones for me...Someone who obviously had read the books drew an image of the characters in a situation I hadn't seen yet and decided to post it online >( people like that should be eaten by dinosaurs.

Wow. And it always has to be something cool that gets spoiled. I guess people just don't think sometimes. Seems kinda common sense to be thoughtful of new stuff people may not have seen. I get it if you say something about Darth Vader being Luke's dad thirty years after the material is out(sorry if you didn't know). YES! Eaten like the two Rex in JP 2 that rip that dude in half!

I'm not sure what the deal is with that, I hope so too! Though knowing Ridley, he has probably got Giger back on board to help with more detailed concepts of the ship :)

Heck yeah! I'm excited to see what kind of creatures are in this film. Maybe it's still set in the Alien Dimension and it's in the past? Maybe waaaayyy into the future! Either way, it will probably be a really good movie.

I have my theories about the film. I thought long and hard about them and very curious to see if they are right! I expect it will be awesome! Though part of me still feels a little reserved, I almost hope it doesn't explain too much about the origins of things as I quite like how mysterious the Derelict ship is and how you're never too sure where the Aliens came from.

Crisosphinx Featured By Owner Mar 28, 2012  Professional Filmographer
Well, they are the scum of the universe. Aliens vs. Predator tried to explain that it ,quite frankly, ruined it to an extent for me. But it's quite possible that if they did explain it, Ridley is good enough to probably make it entertaining and brilliant at the same time. Maybe I'm just being over optimistic towards that, too.

I have no idea what this movie is going to be able, aside from the fact that they are visiting the Derelict.

I tend to ignore the AVP films and even the 4th Alien film (the 3 isn't as great either but it does have some good moments in it!)

From what I have seen from the second trailer, I have a theory of what the space jockey really is. And the mysterious human head! I could be completely wrong, but it's always fun to come up with ideas and bet on if it's right or not haha!

Oh hurry up June!
