Harry Potter Tarot: King of Swords by nasubionna Harry Potter Tarot: King of Swords by nasubionna
King of Swords/Head of Slytherin: This card represents an intelligent and analytical person, one who understands problems and information quickly and is good at mental challenges. This person is a talented speaker and expects others to live up to his own rather exacting and demanding standards. Severus Snape is all of those things: his logic puzzle protecting the Stone is a good example. He can see through lies and dubious characters often when no one else does (he was the only one to suspect Quirrell, and always knows when Harry has been breaking rules).
Really the only thing about this card that doesn't wholly fit Severus is that this card usually represents someone who is just and honorable and ethical. However, while Snape can be mean and petty and is definitely NOT fair and ethical when it comes to academic dealings at Hogwarts, in the grand scheme of things, Snape is on the honorable side of good. Severus made the difficult decision to leave the dark side and serve Dumbledore, and for the most part, no matter his personal feelings, manages to take the high road and do as Dumbledore requests.

I believe that Severus was integer. He has fulfilled his mission: to protect Harry until the end, even if it costs his life. Against Lilly, he was loyal although only one knew of his love. After Verat, he remained loyal to Dumbledore it, even if it meant his best, and probably only, friend to kill, and so to draw the wrath of the entire Order of the Phoenix to be. And all this to "the cause" not to betray. Of course, I felt like I Harryund long as his friends knew not anything. but after I read all the books I admire him ... Even if I may not always approve of his actions. But for me he deserves in all respects, this place in the deck.
Also, I have a feeling that you admire him (in secret to minimum). Because you very well painted him. With the Potionen ... his face with his applied distancing views. I even have the impression that his main concern was that someone might discover his true personality. That's why he was probably also a master of Oclumentic ...

Snape, Snape, Snape. Kept us guessint right to the end, didn't he? I'm glad he wasn't evil because that's too cliched to have the nasty shady character evil. He is the essence of good writing because he isn't cutout. I don't hate him, but I don't give him a free pass on how he treated people either. But, he was on the good side, that's what's important. And I loved his fake veritaserum!

He's simply lovely. I kinda want to lick his delicious eyebrow. D'you suppose he'd allow it? ;-)

Love the whole Tarot series that was in your gallery, and particularly your Snape here with his devilishly arched eyebrow, and the tarot interpretation.

I love all the details. From his sallow skin to the bookcase to his spiky handwriting on the blackboard. And his stance suits him: Condescending and guarded. I'm not familiar with Tarot but that was a very interesting description.

Good analysis, the card description reminds me of the zodiacal sign of Capricorn (and Snape, born on January 9th, is a pure Capricorn indeed), and it's very appropriate!
I love his features, neat and plain and so Snape-ish in their essence!
Good job!

Your Snape is perfection. Honestly, you were the first fanartist I ever stumbled upon back in the day (lol) that I thought did him so much like he appeared in my head, and your art has such a special place in my heart because of that :)

I love your tarot series, but my favorites have to be the four house heads. Out of the four this one is my own personal favorite. You've really captured his personality here and I do believe that King of Swords is the right choice! :)

:w00t: for my favorite card :iconblacklovelyheartsplz: Although I personally think he's up there in the Majors (arcana) that's just me. This whole series has been a total delight to see; I love the harmonious images and awesome stained - glass designs you've achieved here

Thanks! And dont' worry, our darling Severus will indeed be making an appearance in the Major Arcana! I just havent' finished the card yet. But yeah, Snape is definitely worthy of appearing more than once in the deck. :)
