Jason Dube and Saccon

Mon Oct 1, 2012, 11:42 AM

Yesterday, I attended Saccon with some friends with free ticket vouchers and met with Jason Dube. :D

He was an enthusiastic gentleman as he pulled up a chair and I showed him Blood and Sugar.
Somehow, he even remembered me from the one brief moment we met and talked so many years ago! Wow!
(Of course I think he was fibbing in kindness, but oh well. Still made me giddy.)

What I was really hoping for was some constructive criticism, but after looking at my comic for over 10 minutes, he couldn't think of anything! He was impressed with my artwork, complimented me on the 3-dementionality of my characters and posing, expressions, ability to be aable to enthrawl a reader even when there are no words that they can read (I showed him the raw drawings), and my ability to create original characters and storyline (since the comic is an original storyline only based in the L4D universe). I told him how I want to re-do page three because I am not happy with the cross-hatching and the panel settup (thanks for the tips, WallyTheWaffle) and I want to work more to better myself with backgrounds.

He encourages me to get a booth and sell, but when he asked why I am not yet publishing, my friend piped up in my shiness, "She doesn't think she's ready." Jason made the silliest expression then, and said, "As far as I'm concerned, you are!" We talked a little more, and then he gave me his card with some extra information, and told me to contact him whenever. He heads the SCCG and Artist's Alley. I'm so happy~!

Soooooooooooo~
I don't know how many of you know this, but Blood and Sugar is actually something I'm looking to publish and sell. :meow:
Of course, I have to get permission from Frictional/ Valve to use the L4D aspects of the story, and plan to.
This is all something I plan in an undetermined furture, after the first chapter is completely finished, which it is all mapped out and mostly sketched, my hold-up being supplies and time. haha But I still have the enthusiasm to continue, so do not worry.

Talking to Jason was just the boost I needed to make me have much more solid feelings about this-- enough to share with all of you.
Yay~!

hehe ^//u//^ I had fun... and then we unintentionally flash-mobbed a sushi resturant with Gangnam Style and then went back to eating like normal people when the resturant workers turned the music on again and got cameras. LOL

You don't know how happy and proud I am to hear that  and I fully agree with him, You really should launch yourself and make big step into publication, I know you have everything need to keep going that way, you have the drawing skills, the many characters, and story telling skills and your artistic nature! I hope to see you going far onto that path. ^w^

Thanks, Chuck!
It's hard to believe that this can actually become a profession for me, but I know that no matter where I go, I will be continueing with my art, and likely, my anime/manga-style art as well, so why not keep that possibility open? :)

You could even keep the publication as a side side job for extra money if it is something you truly enjoy doing.
