This is another one of those Rem-as-my-fashion-victim artworks I doodled during that particularly depressed week. I made the background design a month later however. I disliked the picture at first, even though I was content that it served its purpose as an outlet and it did make me feel better, but when I added the background, I liked it so much more.

My understanding of roses is improving but I keep gravitating towards my old style. It's a hard habit to break, but one I want to for artistic growth.  Roses exist in more variations than my favorite cabbage roses, after all, and they're all beautiful and symbolize different things.

Loose inspiration for this was the "umbrella borrowing" scene from "In This Part of the World." It was a catalyst for me to research and then learn that persimmons are an old  Japanese symbol for sexuality and fertility. This is something that Rem has to explore about himself in his story. In this picture, it is present, but he refuses to acknowledge it- even the orange tones in his skin are neutralized with blue. Roses are a symbol secrecy (sub rosa) and three roses mean "I love you." While the colors have hints of orange ( a symbol of passion, and in this context relating to the persimmon also acts as a symbol of sexuality), they're nearly monotone (white roses symbolizing purity). In short, Rem rejects his sexuality.

Another wonderful picture!  When I feel sad I draw sad pictures too. My last was a bottled fairy, but since then I removed the blood because it made me feel uncomfortable having it.
The roses are particularly beautiful! I'd love to learn how to draw them better  F2U Red Rose Pink Heart Icon

And don't worry I am fairly shy around sexual themes. And I never saw a rose (or any flower) representing sexuality. You don't have to dwell on these things if it bothers you.

People were shocked the first time I uploaded a vent art because it had lots of blopd in it. Meh~ Whatevs~ It serves its purpose, you know?

And not to fret. ^^ Sexuality was not what was bothering me at the time that I was making the picture. Though it is interesting to point out that this picture does not necessarily embody what was making me depressed, though usually my vent arts do, yet the creation of it was still therapeutic. :) It did not occur to me before.

Oh okay, as long as you find the picture therapeutic, then that's all that matters.
