Happy 1st Birthday! _Doodle by NasikaSakura Happy 1st Birthday! _Doodle by NasikaSakura
Happy 1st birthday to Cute-in-a-Cup!

Here is our group macot, "Baby," serving up a cute cupcake in a tea cup to celebrate!
:blowkiss: She made enough for every member to have their own cute little tea cupcake!

Thank you for such a wonderful year, everyone~!

.:thank you bear:. by Chipi-Chiu

Temporary file!
I am working on a very large traditional media version of this doodle and Speed Art, but with my computer problems, I wasn't able to finish it in time... I thought it would be best to wait until I had my computer up and running again to record my progress, rather than complete it off-camera, because I think that would be even more special! I will update then!

Aww, thank you sweetie. ;u;
I've unfortunately not made the progress I have wanted to on this one since~ I'm still planning to finish it though! I had to push the project aside for now to complete another smaller picture that I was working on for an art book (I couldn't finish in time, but I still want to finish it for myself), and then I will be opening commissions back up soon. :meow: I need to raise money to pay for the convention prints. My con funds have had to be plunged into for emergencies (my dog got an infection, for example).

You should finish the art book picture first! Cause that one has a deadline, but the drawing for Cute-In-A-Cup doesn't.

Do what's important first~

You sound like you're in a tight spot :iconlazycryplz:
Wish i could help //cri

Oh, do not cry, sweetie! *dries your tears with a hankie*

I am doing my best. :meow:

The art book is long past due now... I wasn't able to start it until most of the time to make the picture had already been passed because the person running it didn't get back to the traditional media artists about physical size specifications until last minute, then extended the contest one week for us to work... but we were supposed to have a full month. Needless to say, I wasn't able to get it done in time. ;u; But I still want to finish it. I put a lot of thought and effort into it... It's a picture of my character Rem. It's at A4 size, so I could easily make it a manga cover some day. I plan to make his story a series in manga format. Each of my comics, I seem to be doing in a different format to feel out which one it is that I prefer. XD

Talking about manga, I was going to ask you if you knew any colleges in California that has a major in manga artists. :iconcraiplz:

And amg I have around 5 contest entries to draw right now because a lot of people want me to join their contest. I didn't want to be mean so I told them I would join ;A;

Oh, dear, sweetie! XD Just be honest next time and tell them that you're too busy!

No, unfortunately, manga art schools are Japan-only~ You wouldn't even be able to stay a whole semester without becoming a citizen, which involves relinquishing citizenship anywhere else.

HOWEVER, my college and many others now as well, are offering literature electives about comics and manga! It's not necessarily a drawing class, but reading comics and analyzing them! I think it's FASCINATING and incredibly enriching!!! It makes you think about manga that you appreciate and manga that you make in completely new ways! It involved learning how it is that comic artist take non-physical elements, such as time, manipulated by artistic choices. Our textbook was Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics" and it is wonderful! It's a text book about comics written as a comic! So every element that it is talking about, it IS the example of! It's incredibly easy to understand and massively entertaining. :eager:

As far as learning to draw, you can get an incredible amount of How-to-Draw books in many different levels for free form the public library. :) I'm not fond of most of them though. :P There's very few I like. I do like "Manga School with Selena Lin," but it's for more advanced individuals since it barely brushes on the basics and instead works on the refinement.

What would really help it learning art in general- not just anime/manga style. I'm an art major for Fine and Applied Studio Arts with a certificate in Design. All the concepts that you learn in one art will enrich you when attempting another. You'll learn proper anatomy, color theory, control, composition, techniques, tools, and new ways to experience and think about art. It's true that in higher education here, they mock anime and manga style art more often than tolerate it... But don't let that stop you! Just because you can't make it for their class doesn't mean that you can't make it for yourself in your own time. The things that you will learn form that class, to their dismay, will only enrich your personal art further and enrich your artistic growth as well.

Trust me!
I can see it!
Even when I am not able to make a anime/manga style artwork in a long time for whatever reason, when I do it, I and others can see the improvement I have made from simply studying and practicing in realism, in abstraction, in different mediums, etc. It's a wonderful thing, and well worth it!

But then at the same time, i was looking for some contests to join..lolol

My parents don't even want me to be an artist/manga artist and now i have to go to japan just to become a manga artist?!
I had 3 majors i want: Watercolor artist, manga artist, doctor
Manga artist was my first decision because i really like drawing anime and see improvement from myself every year
I've only been drawing for 3-4 years

Doctor was my parent's decision. They don't want me to be an artist but a doctor because doctors earn more money.

Watercolor artist was my other decision because I find watercolors very elegant and interesting!!! And i love watercoloring painting *^*

Haha, i love those How-to-Draw Anime/Manga books. I own 2 of them!
One of them is for romance anime and the other is for shoujo anime~ >u<
I am very overprotective over them OuO
That really sucks how they don't have manga/anime majors in college!!!
Oh well, all art classes amaze me anyways haha X3

As far as I know with my colleges, there is no specifically watercolor major, but there is a  Fina and Applied Arts major (higher education) that you can do which includes all traditional-media art, which is my focus. :meow:

You're young~ You have time to figure things out. :D

:meow: Which books do you have? Perhaps I have seen them before.
