Dear Old Friend by NasikaSakura Dear Old Friend by NasikaSakura
I've spent a long time on this one, even if it may not look like it, from skeching to coloring and finally to editing the scan. Probably took more time to do this one simple picture than most of my traditional gallery.

There's a lot of songs that fit this one, and a lot I was listening to, but I think this one was the most prominent influence for this particular picture. [link]

"Guess it's too late
to fix my mistakes
and now you're nowhere in site.

Moved on with your life,
left me in the past,
forgot about my existance."

Today doesn't have to be a goodbye.

. . . . . . . . . .
But this is one of the songs I actually want to send you: [link]

Beautiful indeed! The effect you applied for tears is very convincing.

Why do I feel my English is twisting? Oh well...:iconlolmemeplz:

Actually, there was nothing done to the tears. :) They are just as I had made them with white gel pen. Thank you very much! This just means it came out well. ^w^ Thank you! And your English is just fine. XD No worries~

I was having issues with the head's angle, but I ended up satisfied with the nose myself. :)
Thank you. It's my same old coloring style. XD Just took a lot more time fixing up the scan.

Probably one of your strongest pieces anatomically. The subtle curves happen on the right spots where it feels most natural in detail. I admire your careful crafting and attention to detail in this style. Her facial expression's strong and serves as a good focal crown to the triangularity of her body posture that keeps pointing the eye back towards it. The only striking thing about the piece is color choice conflicting with the mood. (specifically with the background and lighting colors) With the title serving as the verbal theme relating to the piece, "Dear Old Friend" suggests it involves someone very valuable. When introduced to the visual piece, the audience only receives one subject, and a grieving subject at that. Although she is very gentle, isolating her makes me feel very sad that she is grieving, most likely from losing a dear old friend. But this sad feeling is conflicted by the bright pretty colors mostly enforced by the white background and yellow sun-like lightsource. It makes me think, is the piece suggesting the beautification of this sadness? Why? Is that really consistent to the title, being the verbal summary of a piece? So yeah. I feel like this should've been a straight-up sad piece, that should've been enforced also by a sadder background, cuz otherwise the background just remains inconsistent. I could see it work though if there was an addition of another person, maybe the friend, being there to comfort her, maybe cuz she's crying because the friend is leaving. A very common and relatably beautiful innocent emotion. the goodbye.

Oh and were you exposed to Early Rise through a link from me? 83

Yes. I find myself addicted to your taste in music lately.
I also tried using my webcam to help with seeing the pose because the shoulder blades irritated me when I was drawing the sketch, which proved difficult to do. XD But it worked eventually.

It's complicated... This was a vent art, and the pink is characteristic. The bright colors do serve a purpose of firstly, as you said, beautifying the sadness, and secondly expressing a sad hope and kindness. It's hard to explain, at leaste, indirectly.

I can't tell if that was genuin or sarcastic due to the sadness in it. OTL''''
Thank you. The smoothness is thanks to the painstaking editing. XD
I don't usually make my pictures smoother on the computer because my programs don't do that (I had to use a web-based editing program, er... a few... to edit this). My traditionals aere very smooth in reality, but end up looking rather grainy when scanned. I wasn't going to take chances with this one.
