Harpy-Siren Hall Costume by Nashoba-Hostina Harpy-Siren Hall Costume by Nashoba-Hostina
Do I love monsters? Why yes. Yes I do. Even ones like Harpies and Sirens.

This silly little thing has actually kind of been in the works for ages. Those who have been around my gallery for a few years probably recognize my Dancing Wings: [link] That I modified up for this costume, by adding sleeves and such. The wings also now have archaeopteryxish wing-talons (Because I do love dinosaurs, yes indeed) and I gave myself some little harpy-feets: [link] .

I figure, Iíve hurt myself in all sorts of monster costumes, why not try the awkward angled stilts used in films like the American Godzilla Remake and Dog Soldiers and such? This, friends, is how I learned I am even clumsier than I thought. (Little tip: Do not practice walking on angled stilts on a gravel driveway) Anyway, I also made myself a little feathered bird tail, which looks a bit too floofy from the side like this, but oh well.

Anyway, I suppose this costume would be called a half-suit? I dunnoÖ but it was designed to be a smallish costume that I could easily transport to various cons, with crushable parts that can be smushed into suitcases, and would be easy to put on and take off in a hurry. I guess that makes this the polar opposite to Princess: [link] , which was actually the costume I was working on when I first slapped the basis of the harpy feet together out of scrap lumber and PVC pipe from the studio.

I suppose I ought to post other costumes Iíve done sometime soon. And maybe I ought to finish the Faun I started, and the Steampunk Costume the Lycanthropy Case: [link] will go to.

Anyway, thanks for looking, take care guys!

This costume is retired. I have a bad knee and this is just too rough on it.

Other costuming work Iíve done:

How did you make the wings?

I just cut the wing shapes out of cloth, sewed them together, added a wire to hold onto for support, and painted eact feather on individually.

I'm afraid I currently don't take costuming commissions, though you're sweet to be interested. (Besides, I'd have to wreck a pair of your shoes to make it)

Oh my goodness! How much would a costume set like this cost? Or at least the wings? :O
So many people make uber-complicated, feather-by-feather wings, it's cool to see a more simple concept out there!

When making something like this, it depends on how much you want to spend on yourself. When making them, you could buy cheap fabrics that may not take paint as well, but cost less, or spend a bit more per yard and get something a little more durable. Likewise, you could use wire, which you could bend so it packs easier, or wooden dowels, which cost less.

Oh, I've made more complicated wings myself. But I needed something durable and easily transportable XD

 I was actually asking if you were willing to take a commission for 'em! If not, I'll definitely give 'em a shot, myself. A friend of mine made me a hoodie with wings on the sleeves--including hand pockets at the ends--but I never thought of just doing full-arm, separate sleeves before. :D

I don't see why not, for the wings anyway! (The feet would be a liability issue, but the wings should be fine.) Tell ya what... when you like, send me a note specifying exactly what you want, and after you give me a full discription, I'll quote you a price based upon how long it should take me and the cost of materials. :D
