Where can I find the original article about abelisaur growth rates? I've been trying to look for it after reading your blog on abelisaur omnivory, but I haven't had any luck so far.

Do you know if there have been any findings/studies on stegosaur tongues?

Nothing I know of.

So, I looked at one of your old blog posts about how the Cenozoic is/was basically the partial second age of dinosaurs* (link) and I wanted to see if I have the reasons summarized correctly.

1.) In terms of species birds outnumber mammals about 2:1.
2.) Birds are up there with mammals at the top of the highest terrestrial biomasses.
3.) Predatory birds play a profound role in controlling rodent populations.
4.) Birds can/have occupied niches mammals fill, while mammals have failed to occupy some niches birds occupy.

That about right? And is there anything else you've since learned about this?

*By the way, that just sounds so freakin' awesome!

Ha that's an old one!! No, I have not had time to revisit that topic. Frustratingly I have a memory of reading how seabird biomass might compete with marine mammal biomass, especially in the southern hemisphere after the whaling industry depleted stock but I have not come across anything. I also recall reading something about some penguin species benefiting from warming oceans.

On a more intuitive note one can stroll around in any human modified landscape and see a sheer and overwhelming abundance of birds both in species count and sheer visibility. Mammals are still in the cities but often play a more nocturnal/cryptic role.
