I could have sworn there was a short film in the credits of "Despicable Me" 1 that was an employee orientation video, and it explained that Minions are actually GMO bananas that were injected with some sort of odd gene-editing chemical. This would explain their obsession with bananas. I could have sworn I saw this but I may have just dreamed it the night after.
