Art Blocked? The Anatomy of Art Block
A brief edition, 7 years later, as this article is still receiving attention.
AS a webcomic artist who has now produced over 1,000 pages of work with no hesitation, I should amend this article with the following summary:
Art-block is caused by a lack of creative purpose. Purpose is the best means by which a vacillating artist might finally become motivated again. Whether it's as simple as the need to capture a beautiful image, like a sunset with a loved one, or as dire as the need to communicate an imperative revelation before death, this purpose is the key to allowing the feeling of importance, which will allow artists to undertake as great a task as making art.
Avoid distractions.
Avoid irrelevant information.
Understand your own desires.
Achieve perspective.
Feel no shame.
We all get art-blocked at one point. "I don't want to draw" or "I don't feel like drawing this..."
By understanding what art-block is, we can take steps to avoid it in the future, and pos

How to gain more exposure on deviantART!
So you think you're a pretty good artist, and have some decent pieces, but nobody to show. Or perhaps you're a learning artist who wishes to attract more attention to your pieces to get advice and criticism. Sound like you? I know it sounds like me!
Many artists on deviantART wish that they could have more exposure in the art world, but I've noticed that not many of them know how to go about doing so. There are actually many options, and we shall examine them thoroughly, to hopefully get you more exposure!
First off, just so that we're all on the same page, please don't expect exposure if you have nothing in your gallery. You need to be serious and dedicated about this. Also, ALWAYS make sure that the work is your own, and not stolen from someone else. It will surely get back to the artist from which you took it from, and you will be severely penalized.
Now that we've cleared that up, we'll begin!
1. The most common way to get exposure, comments and favourites is to

Journal CSS Resources
CSS for subscribers is finally here!! Your local neighbourhood zilla is here to give a few pointers to the novice CSSers who want to give their journals a make over with a few pointers and a list of handy resources.
As a general rule it is better to keep things simple, not just if you are a beginner. Remember the following points when you design your page:
1. Mock it up Try your design in Photoshop first (or which ever app you have) that way you can play with colours and styles without needing to refresh your journal too much.
2. Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should... try to avoid making things like the text size too small. The current journal style works well, so just start simply by changing colours.
3. Contrast is good. Making the colours of your text and links the same, or very close is bad m'kay. Make it easy for people to differentiate between things. Also, making your journal text too dark on a black background or too light on a bright backgro

How to spot copyright infringements on Ebay
Many of you already know about problems with photobucket and other photo hosting and graphics sites. There are quite a few artists who think this isn’t a big deal because the users aren’t selling the art. But, for every uncredited picture out there there is someone who will assume it’s free clip art which they can sell elsewhere.
Ripped art is a big problem on Ebay and sites like ioffer. There are even factories in China which make oil painting reproductions using other artist’s work at very low prices. Most other products using ripped art are DIY or “do-it-yourself” items handmade by the seller. That doesn’t mean that they are small time. Many of these shops have powerseller status.  Basically anything that can be made with a home computer or by adding a print to a product can be suspect.  There are also many small companies who legitimately have licensing agr

Of Professionalism and Portfolios
This article was inspired by something that happened yesterday, so let me start by sharing that story.
I delivered a storyboard job to an ad agency yesterday, a regular client. As I was waiting around, the art director I work with received a board from another freelancer, and turned green. The board looked like it had been made by someone's little sister. It was badly drawn and incomprehensible as she had tried to cover up for the weakness of the characters by adding tons of irrelevant details. "That's not the kind of work she showed us in her portfolio!" the art director fumed. She showed the damage to a colleague. He said, "Make her redo it." "She'll never have time to redo it for tomorrow, and she won't make it any better anyway! I can't send this to South Africa!"
To make a long story short, they managed to get me to save their skins, which took all day yesterday and half of today. It should have taken much longer but I departed from my usual storyboard style and went for a sketchy
