Winter Goldfinch

This painting, "Winter Goldfinch", is my first completed oil painting. I've been working on many all at once, but this was the first to get finished! You can see that many of my acrylic habits / mark-making carried over into this one. Since finishing this, I've already learned a lot about how the oils handle! I really love the subtle colors of American Goldfinches in the winter against the white, grey, and brown landscapes. I donated this piece to the Cattaraugus County Arts Council for their recent Celebration of the Arts fundraiser.

For years now I've been thinking about doing something similar, but with a bright summer goldfinch perched on a blooming chicory bush.
This is something I actually saw while out on a walk one spring morning and the image has stuck with me. Unfortunately, my talents don't lean towards natural objects, it always ends up looking like a blob. :\
