"Understory Robin" American Robin, 8"x10" Oil.

American Robins are so ubiquitous in many areas of North America that I think they almost become "background noise" and are overlooked by many. I find these thrushes very beautiful and admire their adaptive natures that have allowed them to keep up with our ever increasingly changed environments. They are so frequently observed in mowed yards that it might be hard to think of them in their more natural habitats. I find a certain delight when I see one working the understory in a wooded area.

Lovely painting! :aww: I like the bright beak, white feathers around his little oildrop eye, and of course his bright red belly all standing out against the rich brown background.

Last summer some old leaves left over from last year were piled up right next to the house. Some days when the window was open I would hear a strange rustling sound and when I looked out, I would see a robin flying away. Although I love seeing them, I soon stopped looking out for fear of disturbing whatever robin was digging in the leaves for grubs or earthworms. :chew:

That's a lovely story! Piles of leaves are exceptionally helpful to wildlife, and often contain butterfly or moth cocoons!

Aw, what a nice portrait! It really seems to glow.
You're right that many abundand birds become overlooked. Here in germany it's the common blackbird. But in my opinion their song is one of the most beautiful songs :)

Beautiful!  The thrushes we have here in South Africa are not as colourful, but I still always enjoy seeing them, whether in the garden or in the wild.

This is so beautiful!! I just adore all the colors incorporated here.  You have an amazing eye for detail and color!

I see thrushes every day as I sit and work on my computer at a desk facing the window.  They are fascinating to observe, as is all wildlife eking an existence in our ever expanding urban environments.
