Taka didn't want to risk that the good hyenas would tell someone that he was the one who planned with them have the buffalo charge. (Leading to the accidental near-death of his parents.) For some reason he decided that having the good hyenas killed would be the easiest way to keep the good hyenas silent. And the only ones who would willingly kill the good hyenas are the bed hyenas. I hope that helps.
All I can think from the last panel is hell yes Rafiki is willing to bet his life, the better question is Baya or will a hidden cowardice be revealed once she no longer has the upper hand?
