I was asked this question by someone a little while back, and it's kind of amusing cause I never paid much mind to it. Thought it might be fun to explore

The short answer is: she's not.

The long answer is that over the course of several commissions, her hair became lighter and lighter, eventually growing a bit of a reddish tint. I know there's a couple pictures I use over and over as reference, and I think artists are just using those to pick the color. There's definitely a few where I'd say Invy looks like a redhead, though. So lets go way back. Way way way back when Invy was still a character in a superhero game, and when I would describe her personality people would tell me "she's not a very good superhero" to which I'd reply "yeah? Good, she's not." That's a story for another day, anyway, check out the original

She's definitely got some dark brown hair in this. I don't think you could use the word "red" to describe it, but maybe I'm dumb. Most of the early art has her in a similar hair color, or a little bit lighter. These ones tint it up a little

Still brown though? Yeah, I'm not too sure where the red came in. Heck, you've even got some really great pieces with her in dark brown hair

I think I can pinpoint where it all started to change, though. Around 2011 I wanted to shift my characters a bit more out of the superhero scene. At the very least I wanted to give them a bit more personality and some civilian clothes. Invy was the first one to change. She was supposed to like robots and technology stuff (she had a weird armored suit and teleportation devices), and she already had personality of being shy, liking video games, nonviolent, etc, so she got some normal clothes

She came out fantastic, pretty much exactly how I wanted. Looking back, though, the hair is significantly lighter. Which is fine! It was definitely brown, you could say the lighting in the others made it look different, but still a good color on her, I like it. So much so that this became my go-to reference picture for a while, sometimes it still is. The only thing about it is that after this point, the darker colored hairs fall significantly out of favor. Yes, if you check her folder, there's definitely some darker ones. There's a few where she may have some redder tones

I don't think I'd call her a redhead in these. Maybe I'm dumb, or I'm just blind because of the slow shift. Keep in mind, these are also top pick-these-for-reference images that I give to artists. They're decent colors, I like her with a lighter brown shade more than the dark, honestly. If you want red, I'd say these are the reddest (especially the first one, haha)

And that's still fine. Not every picture has to get stuff exactly correct. The one on the left could be a bright sunshine day and everything just looks brighter and redder. I do know that artist loves summer, but in contrast I think he said something about her being a redhead and I never corrected him, haha. That's sort of the evolution of her becoming a redhead, and she's really not supposed to be. Also keep in mind that for the cosplay, I picked the color for her hair and I believe it was labeled "chocolate." Could be wrong

And this isn't trying to bash on anyone or anything, I love all the pictures I've set as an example here, and all of the ones that I haven't. If I had a problem with the colors, I'd ask for a change. And believe me, I have asked for pretty much an entire picture's colors to be changed before (when the artist said it was simple to do) so there's no issue there. Honestly, it never bothered me until someone asked me that question. Going forward, I might make more of an effort to stress that she has brown hair, but other than that, whatever happens will happen. Invy has brown hair, sometimes it gets a red tint depending on the lighting. Simple as that? Maybe. We'll see

If you wanna see more of the varying hair colors, I encourage you to check out her folder and show all the artists some love

Looking back at 2025 and 2026 Plans

Jan 4, 2026
I'm a little late writing stuff here (I usually post my dumbass thoughts on bluesky if you want to follow me there!) but 2025 was a decent year for me. Looking solely at art, I drew over 150 pictures, which wasn't really something I was aiming to do, but I do enjoy drawing so I'm happy to have that many. I know most of my stuff isn't amazing, but I appreciate it when anyone comes along and likes what I've done! I end up posting nearly everything that I draw because I've discovered even if I am not satisfied with something, someone usually likes it. The backlog did make things a bit odd. Even going in to 2025 I had a bunch of pictures that were waiting to be posted. I'll hold on to some for whatever reason and sometimes even when the opportunity comes along I'd still be sitting on it. i don't think that's really a good plan, so going in to 2026 hopefully nearly everything will be at the very least within the same month. I'm hoping too that the lack of a backlog to post will make it

2025 Plans

Jan 4, 2025
I have no plans. That's it. Bye. No, but to get into more detail (though I'm never sure who actually reads this stuff) I just plan to keep doing what I've been doing. That is to say, drawing what I feel like and then just posting 2 images a week. It's worked out pretty well so far so I don't see any need to change it with a big project or a big idea. Last year I thought it'd be fun to post a picture of every Blue Archive Character on their birthday and that didn't last long because I forgot the year is frontloaded, so not even entertaining thoughts like that this year. I'd also complained a lot about getting DMs from people trying to get me to give them money. I'd thought about removing my old commissioned works to see if that would quell the notes, but I'm convinced now it's not going to change anything. The messages I get, when they actually cite a reason why they're messaging me, point to things posted by other people years and years ago. One person even showed me something

September Check-In (SFW stuff, Comms/Requests)

Sep 11, 2024
It's time for a check-in. Not too much new in the drawing world for me, though there are a couple things that have been on my mind. Firstly, I've been considering offering commissions. Like, actual commissions. Not sure how much they'd be, but there's a status update asking about interest on it. It didn't seem to get any attention aside from one person favoriting it, but the offer is still there if anyone's interested. I'd been kicking the idea around of seriously offering it for a while, and then coincidentally someone messaged me with a request and I though sure, why not throw it out there. You can always make a free request, but I've offered that before and then didn't draw any of them. Also, if you're just requesting something for free I'd have to really like the idea first off, and secondly I might try to warp it into something else just to be a jerk, haha. Commissions I would take more seriously. I'd try to prioritize and get them out quick, but I'd also try to only take one

March Check-in 2024

Mar 14, 2024
Here's the questions for people who don't want to read the whole thing: -Would you want something "patreon-like" where a character is suggested for me to draw every month -Would you like more polls to specifically or vaguely decide what gets drawn -Blue Archive characters remain the focus currently. Suggestions for this will have a higher chance of being done (if you do, include a clear pose idea or reference) Here's the words: Art posts are coming along pretty steadily again. I know in my last check-in I said I wasn't necessarily going to conform to the "Saturday update" schedule, but it keeps things on track so I think we'll stick with it for a while. I'm still progressing with making pictures at a decent pace, IMO, but the backlog excess feels like it gets smaller and smaller even though it's not. Basically, nothing's changing on that front. I'd like to get some more interaction with what I'm drawing, though. I have a list of ideas of stuff I'd like to make and there's about 40
