Ink deer by Mystalia Ink deer by Mystalia
Just some practice with brush and ink.

THANK YOU ALL for your opinions on the earlier version I uploaded ^^ I read them all carefully before putting the deviation in my scraps and finishing this. The result: I left out the deer that wasn't entirely visible and I lowered the one that was.

So, I had a lively discussion about this with a few fellow animal artists in *Sullivan's livestream and we came to the conclusion that these deer look somewhat off. The muzzles aren't entirely right, the ears are a bit long, some other anatomical issues etc. I see now the mistakes I've made and even though it was a little late to fix them on this drawing here, I'll be sure to keep them in mind in future pieces. This was just practice after all ^^ Would have been useless if I hadn't learned anything from it.

But even though I saw my errors, I still felt like finishing it. Can't have thousands of sketches lying around unfinished now, can we. I hope you guys still enjoy this little piece of sketchwork from me.

Might I ask? What kind of paper did you use to have this lovely aged look?

Thank you! This is pretty old work though, maybe I should try to do some inkings again to see if I can do better, haha.

This is fun, especially as a learning exercise. It sounds to me like you have a great attitude about the whole project. I also like this piece in and of itself; I find compositions with a lot of useful negative space to be very interesting. :-)

Bleh on the errors my dear! I think your deer are wonderful- they look like you designed them this way and I think they are wonderful. They have your own touch!

But I guess if they aren't quite what you are going for -shrugs-

I love dis art 8V want*

Well, I do still like this piece ^^ With or without anatomical errors. It just gives me something to keep in mind the next time I try to draw deer. I do have the tendency to simplify animals in a characteristic manner; I seem to have done so unintentionally here :/

But I still like them ^^ And I'm delighted to hear you do too. I appreciate all the kind words!

Despite anything, it's still an inspiring piece. :)
Practice or not.

Thanks ^^ Inspiring is the best an artist can be.
I do enjoy looking through sketches and practice-stuff, be it my own or other people's doodles. In a few years (or months or weeks probably) I'm going to look back on this and be extremely happy I finished it =D

I appreciate the kind words! ^^

Haha, yes, I know exactly what you mean. xD
It's always fun to see how you've grown, too. :)
And you're very welcome.
