In all of your work you have an excellent eye for composition. Everything you do is balanced and striking. Great stuff.

You had it coming and I meant every word of it. Your sense of composition is remarkable, so I remarked.

I miss the magic of snow, chilled winter afternoons when the light is pure & gentle gradational blues of evening winter sky.

Unfortunately it doesn't snow where I live, the changing seasons are essential I believe for balance. :+fav:

One of the things I admire about your work, is your ability to be very simple and clean. My work is not about simplicity...but I love that other people can do it--and it inspires me, greatly! :D

I like both...the simplicity... and the overlaying of information. In fact I LOVE the complex shot with all sorts of things going on in it. Not many have liked those of mine..they don't get it. kBut I think it's shows amazing ability to include lots of information in a shot.

Personally--I think that we tend to get "known" for certain types of works, in different arenas, online--and any deviation from that produces baffled silences. At Pbase--I'm known for straight portraiture...and my textural stuff gets mostly ignored. Here, it's the other way around...my textural stuff has a cult following--and even the very best of my closer to straight portraiture gets ignored. (Bums me out, man! ;))

Anyway, I suspect that's why people aren't going nuts over your more complex pieces--because it's people who are fans of simplicity that are following you, here.

So much for my dimestore psychology! ;)

When i first came to dA, I did all very straight photos like flowers, landscapes, plain portraits, etc. I had friends who liked that. Gradually I've gotten into this "artsy" crowd... and I love them. Some of the others are still around and I LOVE them too...we have history. As you can probably tell, I'm not set on any one style..I just can't do that like some people do. I wish I could sometimes but ...I'm all over the place. There are times I just want to go out and be a papparazzi or street photographer... and other times I'm in the maco mood, and others in landscape...then I move into a dark and textured phase. Oh well, it's all me and I do hope that I show throough them all. I think one ultimately does.

I always think that people are either generalists, or specialists. Generalists are the type who like a little of everything...specialists aren't happy unless they're plumbing the depths of a single subject. Photographers often wind up being specialists--so it's quite refreshing to see a generalist, like yourself! :D (My sister's a generalist...I'm a specialist...so I like both sides. ;))

You are, however, quite right--"you" show up in all your images...and it's lovely to see!

would it make sense if I said you can "hear the silence " in this shot? Nightfall with heavy snow, all alone the silence is softer somehow, blanketed, very serne

Yes, it makes sense to me! That is one of the things I love about snow. Today here it is very very windy and snowy. A huge storm is expected tonight ...maybe 12 inches of snow. I sort of hope so.

Lol ...I laugh because that sounds like our night last night. It started to snow around 2:00 in the afternoon and just didn't stop. We got clos to 4 inches, and it is due to snow tomorrow all day. They are calling for +6 on Sunday so I may have to alternate between the snow shovel and the bailing bucket...hope your storm isn't too bad.

doggone... if you have looked at very many of my landscapes, (of which there are not that many) but when i go to paint a landscape this is my vision... and if i were to have gone to paint here in the evening... this would in fact be my painting... this is my goal... this is what i decided some time last summer after a frustrating week or two of plein air painting... once i was able to distill the landscape down to it's bare minimum, then i was able to understand what it was that i really loved about what i was looking at... it wasnt' the leaves or the texture of the bark or the blades of grass. it was this... this is it.

I'm so pleased that you see this... your sensibilities are such that it means a lot for you to say what you have. Perhaps I should try to paint it. I could certainly manage that... with a bunch of texture and overlays of color, don't you think? Sincerely, I really love it that you like this.

you are welcome... i do like this... if you paint it i would definitely be thinking about layers of color...and the texture... hmmm, i am not sure i would go with any more than what i would get naturally from the brush bristles in some wet paint. i would love to see what happens if you do paint it.
