Here's a fun color practice! I really enjoyed painting this.

The photograph I looked at is here: [link] by ~dadouX.

Is that colorful enough for the "color" challenge? :D I tried to put as many in as I could!

PS. Also a rock and water study! More bang for your doodle. :giggle:

Certainly nice colouring here :) It's neato how you cooled the rock formation's reflection to a green colour. Don't think I've seen that before.

i dont wanna sound like a critiqe but just throwing my opinion
i think the shadow of the arch which is reflected in the lake( river) should be in more darker green or midnight blue in my seeing
but IT IS STUNNING

It could be... I just liked the contrast of color between the purpley red of the archway and the yellowy green of the water... almost direct compliments. It makes both colors stand out dramatically.

I'm glad you like it! I appreciate the feedback... but this is a few months old, I'm disinclined to change it now. :D Next time I do such an exercise I'll consider a darker reflection though!

Well, I started out drawing landscapes in 2006. So pretty recently. Here's my first set of speedpaints: [link] Ahahaha. Look at the clouds in my first digital landscape! They look like crud!

I learned landscapes mostly from `memod. We would talk on skype for hours at a time and paint together. We'd challenge ourselves with speedpaints to give a time restriction and a subject matter.... we'd pick a photo, agree on it, and set to painting. Time was usually set at an hour, and we'd complain the whole time on the phone to eachother that it was sooo painful a photo to draw, even though we said that about every single one  Or, maybe it was just me complaining and dancakes laughing at me. I can't remember :D

Anyhow the point is, no one starts out drawing like this. I have done more speedpaints than my gallery suggests (there were many huge flops when I first started those paints with memod, and I uploaded about half of what I did..)

And doing many studies like [link] and [link] in my sketchbook from life, also help me gain specific knowledge of local flora and fauna so I can recreate them at my leisure when I am painting from my head. I see these trees and plants on a day-to-day basis, but to draw them and study their specific shapes then allows me to draw plants from my mind without any effort..

Well, I could go on. But a very basic answer to your very basic question, how do I do it? I love #DailyDoodlers. I draw every day, without exception. That's how I do it.

Are you kidding me? those paintings are super good! And the clouds are way better than i could do. :giggle: But your right, it does take practice.
How long does an adverage speedpaint take?

Well, I'm glad my previous knowledge helped there... before I attempted landscapes, I had been drawing figures and still lifes for 10 years. So I was no novice at drawing when I decided to pick up landscapes...

An average speedie is an hour or two, if I'm quick about it. This doodle here though is not a speedie, I spent most of the day working on it. About 8 hours or so.

Your artwork has really inspired me, and the help that you have given me has to. I started a couple days ago, on these 6x15 cm. book marks and they have landscape type of looks to them. (I am working on ocean ones right now.) Thank you and lot for the help. (I might even show you a couple of my pieces when i finish if i am able to upload them.)
