i have a question thought i would ask a sewing group if that's okay maybe someone may know? Does anyone know where i can buy from that prints designs on minky or fabric used for plushies?
Hello! I was wondering if any of you in this group wouldn't mind giving me some recommendations? I friend of mine is getting into plushie making and is wanting some faux fur for her plush. I looked around on the places I purchase my fabric, but they either don't have any offered, or not the right shades. She's looking for some fur that would match the 'Mango' minky color, and hopefully also one to match 'Banana'. (shannon colors) I'm not sure what length she wants but a goodly length for a fox tail. Kind of feathery? If anyone has any recommendations I would be appreciative! Thank you so much!
While I haven't personally used faux fur, I've looked around, and the site that seems to have the best selection of colors is fursuitsupplies.com. Samples are available, too. Unfortunately, they always seem to be out of stock of a lot of their colors.
Another option to look into would be dying the faux fur. There are tutorials out there. Mainly it would require a dye formulated for synthetics. This is a more messy, advanced process, but could result in the best results for matching colors.
Thank you so much! I'll bookmark that for myself in case I ever have a need for faux fur. I asked epicrainbowcrafts and he gave me a couple suggestions, so my friend has happily purchased her fabric and it is on the way. ^^ Thank you again for the suggestion, and taking the time to research and get back to me! I really appreciate it.
hi i have a question if anyone knows a good site that sells great minky i plan to do plsuhies again and i would love to restock my fabrics with more colors it's been years the last i ordered mine from a site and i can't think where i got them from, could anyone lmk a good minky site to get the fabric from?
Do you want to use a machine only for sewing plushies together? Or do you want to get into embroidery, too?
For sewing, you can get a very simple, basic machine. It's pretty easy to find machines for under 100 dollars. Walmart has a Brother for 76.
Look at some of the less expensive machines, and check out reviews.
All you'll need to be able to do is straight stitches and zig-zag. Other decorative and utility stitches probably aren't necessary. A machine with an automatic threader is not strictly required. but it's super duper convenient, and I'd recommend it.
If you want to try embroidery, many start with the Brother SE400. It's nice because it can be used either as a sewing machine or for embroidery. If you want to try the latter, you'll also have to get and learn to use software to design your embroidery. (Unless you'd prefer purchasing designs already made for you--look on Etsy for these.)
You can often find great deals on craigslist. However, I have a sort of wacky theory that sewing machines imprint on their first owner, and when you get one second-hand, (even if they say it works perfectly) it will give you trouble for a while until it gets used to you. (Kidding--sort of).
