Lucario (the Aura Pokémon) is an exceptionally rare Fighting/Steel-type Pokémon found among grassy plains and mountainous terrain within the Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola, Galar, Hisui, Paldea and Kitakami regions. While the chances of seeing one of these rare creatures in battle may be slim, Lucario are powerful creatures that can more than prove to be an immense challenge to any trainer forced to fight them in battle. They might not be the best at taking damage, but when you have the ability to see and detect the motions of the opposition no matter where they are, that's unlikely to ever be much of a problem!

When Riolu reach a certain point of emotional development in either the wild or with their trainer in the warm, comforting rays of the sun, they will spontaneously evolve into Lucario and gain the ability to utilize their aura-based powers to their fullest. In turn, evolution grants these creatures a fairly thick, metallic hide that gives these beasts the natural powers and attributes of Steel-types. Aside from simply being able to see aura, Lucario gain the ability to utilize their own aura as a direct weapon in battle and are granted the ability to utilize a number of moves that their pre-evolved form would otherwise not have access to, most notably the Aura Sphere (which they learn immediately after evolving) and Dragon Pulse attacks and the semi-rare Heal Pulse technique in addition to the Life Dew, Detect, Metal Sound, Me First, Calm Mind and Laser Focus techniques and several other interesting attacks like Bone Rush, Extreme Speed, Power-Up Punch, Close Combat and Meteor Mash. In fact, it can essentially be said with near certainty that Lucario possess perhaps the most powerful Aura Sphere attack out of all Pokémon and are able to generate it much faster than other creatures, reducing large boulders to dust in a single strike and making them an exceptional threat against nearly all Rock, Steel, Ice, Normal and Dark-type Pokémon. Overall, there are few things that Lucario are incapable of doing, and even the vast majority of those flaws can be corrected with a TM or two.

As a result of being able to mentally concentrate their aura and use it as a direct weapon, Lucario can sense the motions of life forms and how they interact with inanimate objects by reading the aura they give off, a process that is still relatively mysterious to most humans and whose functions are a closely-guarded secret among the few humans able to utilize their aura in much the same fashion. Because their ability to detect the auras of their surroundings and everything in them is effectively perfect, Lucario will rarely ever rely on their actual eyesight in battle, instead using their natural powers to see and attack opponents that would be too fast to normally see (such as Ninjask) or otherwise impossible to see due to some sort of obscurity (such as a Smokescreen technique). Well-trained Lucario are known to be able to detect the auras of creatures and thus read their very thoughts and emotions from over half a mile away, a distance that is far outside their normal eyesight and grants them an advantage when hunting prey in packs. This natural ability is only further complimented by the fact that Lucario are extremely smart and level-headed and are known to be able to converse with both other Pokémon and humans (telepathically) freely and have little trouble understanding speech from any organism. This makes them an ideal partner to have in battle, as they are extremely obedient, have almost no difficulty at all adapting to the individual strategies of their owners and are thought by many to be easier to train than nearly any other species of Pokémon. The only downside is that they tend to only bond readily with trainers that have justice in their hearts and get stressed out more easily than other types of Pokémon, as their ability to read feelings through aura can often lead them to finding out things about others that they would have rather never known.

It is further noted that Lucario is one of only 46 species of Pokémon known to be capable of undergoing Mega Evolution. With a Lucarionite in hand, Mega Evolution causes these beasts to grow substantially in size, developing armored extensions to their hands, feet and head region with dark streaks forming on their skin where their aura energy and the energy granted from Mega Evolution intermingled and raced through their bodies. While this limited change in appearance may be the only change that occurs on the outside, inside, these new extensions further serve as focusing beacons for their larger auras and enable these creatures to hone their minds and natural energies even more so than normal, awakening their deeper combative instincts and increasing both their offensive powers drastically and their physical defenses. Moreover, their muscles develop an unusual conduction property that causes them to react more quickly to electrical signals from the brain, heightening their mobility and reaction times considerably all the while granting them an increased capacity to focus their mental energies within their bodies. Unfortunately, the increased surge of power wreaks havoc with their moral compass and reduces them to heartless fighters who will attack their opponents mercilessly where they are weakest and will never let up from their assault until they are sure that their opponent will not get up again. In terms of stats, Mega Evolution grants Mega Lucario a moderate increase to their base Defense and Speed stats, a considerable increase to their base Special Attack stat, and a critical increase to their base Attack stat; in turn, they gain the highest base Speed stat out of all non-legendary Steel-type Pokémon and retain the highest base Special Attack stat out of all non-legendary Fighting-type Pokémon. Moreover, Mega Evolution enables these creatures to focus their entire willpower into every single blow that they deliver; while this might not have a significant impact for most of their attacks, Fighting and Steel-type attacks they use are made more powerful than ever before, reflecting a direct change of their normal Ability to the Adaptability Ability. Lucario are powerful beasts as they are, but with this additional strength gained from Mega Evolution, these creatures can become nearly unstoppable and a serious force to be reckoned with in any battle, close-quarters or not.

While Lucario are generally seen infrequently enough to stay out of the spotlight of the media, there is one incident involving a Lucario that should be mentioned: the Tree of Life Incident, which took place near Cameron Palace in the Kanto region over a decade ago. Long ago, before capture devices were invented, there was a bloody war ensuing between two groups of people and Pokémon; Cameron Palace (part of the once-independent kingdom of Rota), which remained neutral in the conflict, was unfortunately stuck in the middle of things and was sure to be destroyed in the crossfire. Sir Aaron, a loyal servant of the Queen residing in the Palace, and his Lucario attempted to stop the armies, but to no avail; at that time, Sir Aaron sealed his Lucario within his staff and journeyed off in search of some answer. No one was sure what happened at the time, but a wave of energy emanated from an ancient plant known as the Tree of Life, calming the two armies and preventing certain destruction. Many centuries later, a young boy accidentally released Lucario from the staff because he shared the same aura pattern as Sir Aaron. Coincidentally, one of that trainers' Pokémon was taken away by a local Mew at around the same time, forcing the two unlikely allies to work together. Upon reaching the Tree of Life, however, the young trainer and his friends were assaulted by energy-based beings that effectively served as the Tree's defense systems…because it had not needed to use them in some time, however, the Tree of Life began to become sick from absorbing the bodies of the intruders (namely the boy's other friends) and literally began to die. It was only upon reaching the tree's heart that the truth about Sir Aaron was revealed. In a desperate attempt to prevent the armies from fighting each other, Sir Aaron had combined his aura powers with that of the local Mew in order to energize the Tree of Life, generating the wave of energy that eventually calmed the armies; in doing so, however, Sir Aaron became crystallized within a crystal of pure aura. With the assistance of the local Mew, the young boy and the Lucario managed to heal the Tree of Life through the same process, but as the major contributor of aura, the Lucario unfortunately met the exact same fate as his master and became crystallized right alongside him. To this day, there have been no other issues with people invading the Tree of Life, nor has the local Mew played as many unfortunate pranks as before.

Agile and dangerous to confront in any battle, Lucario are powerful beasts that can give most opponents one heck of a battle that they are unlikely to forget. With a devastating mix of attacks and techniques at their disposal and the highest base Special Attack stat out of all non-legendary, non-UB Fighting-type Pokémon, it goes without saying that Lucario are loyal creatures that will likely give their trainer more than just a type advantage in any basic conflict. If you've ever been interested in the mystery of aura or are looking for a balanced Fighting-type to devastate opponents of all types, than consider getting one of these miraculous animals for your collection; if anything else, you might be lucky enough to get taught how to read auras by a true master for free!

I sometimes wonder if Lucario evolved that sharp spike in the middle of its chest, because it wanted to tell all those weirdos to STOP trying to hug him!
