Hi guys. I know it has been a long while since I last did a journal entry, but while I was preparing for a gospel music show at my college radio station, I started analyzing this song.
The song here is called "Be Grateful" by Walter Hawkins.
While I've heard it many times, there is just something to looking at the lyrics closely. I say it all the time on the show that I encourage my listeners to not just listen to the melody and the rhythm, but pay attention to the lyrics, as each song ministers. I’m not going to go through the whole song, because this post is long enough.
Think about this song, Be Grateful, by Walter Hawkins. The first words in the song start off with it’s main message. To be grateful. Many times, we take for granted all the stuff we have. Food, water, clothes, a roof over our head, and much more. We need to remember that these things are all blessings, that we shouldn’t take for granted.
Skipping a few lines, the song goes “But he can’t afford to let you feel only good… Then you can’t appreciate the good times” And when you think about it, this is true. Without the opposite of a “bad”, how can you know what a “good” is. It is similar to things like “hot” and “cold”. “Sharp” and “dull”. “Fast” and “Slow” Without these things, it is difficult if not impossible to truly gauge the exact measure of just how extreme one end is.
The last part I want to pull from the song is the lines where it says “Be Grateful. Because there’s someone else who’s worse off than you. Be Grateful. Because there’s someone else who’d love to be in your shoes.” Just reflect off those lines for a bit. We as people at times complain about every little thing. Things like “Why don’t I have as much money as that person” or “Why can’t I have a bigger house”. At times, we fail to realize that we are blessed with what we have. All you need to do is walk down the street. Everywhere you go, you see people who are homeless, without a place to go. We also never truly know what another person who seems to be doing well is going through. We may think that life for that person is going all well, sunshine and rainbows, but in reality, it could be complete hell. I’m sure that person would love to take what small problems that you may be happening.
That’s why I love this type of music. Each song has its own meaning behind it. It really takes close listening and reflecting on the words. I’m also sure I could find scriptures for each point as well, but with it being this late, that would take a bit more time. With that, I’m going to bed. Take some time to listen to the song.
TL;DR: Finding songs for my show tomorrow, I started analyzing “Be Grateful” by Walter Hawkins.
Well, this it the page of musicdrummer01, aka Christian Wiseman. To tell about yourself is extremely difficult for somebody to to do, (or at least it is for me). So I think I should start out by saying that I am a child of God. I am, as my username suggests, a musician. I play both the drums and the keyboard, mainly for my church.
At this point, I'm not sure as to what else to put so I'll say this is it.
