Namaan always felt they lived a happy life, but there always seemed to be something missing...

They were adopted by a pleasant Indian family at birth. Being given up so young, they never knew their parents weren't the ones that birthed them, nor did they ever think to ask. They loved their parents and the feeling was mutual, but there was always a particular block in their relationship. The parents took their child to a physician one day to assess what was 'wrong', only to learn there was no wrong, just an uncommon circumstance. Namaan was born intersex, leaving their traditional parents with questions on how to address their child. What pronouns were appropriate? He or she? What clothing was appropriate? Male or female? Though it took them some time to understand what it meant to have a child that strayed out of the gender norm, they soon enough learned how to raise them as gender-ambiguous. However, this didn't mean everyone would understand. To an extent, even they didn't. When Namaan would come home from school and ask why children thought their voice sounded weird, their parents had no answer. When it came time to talk about the birds and the bees, they weren't sure how to explain such things to an individual with unfamiliar parts. For that reason, Naam never learned certain things, even as an adult. To take their young mind off such qualms, their parents taught them to farm. To reap and sow life became their purpose from the moment they witnessed a seed they'd planted sprout. They grew to love tending to plants and harvesting the bounty. Soon after, nothing besides that mattered.
