Yeah that's right, this thing is 9 years, 5 months and 22 days old at the moment of completion. Of course it didn't take me all that time to paint the fella - I gave up on him a few months after I started the pic and returned back to it only in the spring of 2011. Because of such a huge gap it's difficult to tell the exact amount of actual time spent on it but it's definitely more than 150 hours, as the last thing I painted over the course of the last two weeks was the skies and it took me around 45-50 hours.

The composition was inspired by the song "Eternal Winds" by a symphonic black metal band Graveworm (you'd better not check it out if you're not into this kind of music , funny thing is I'm not fond of this band anymore either).

The medium is gouache, 5 colors - white, black, dark blue, brown and red (I also mixed white and black for grey and dark blue and white for light blue). The flame from his eyes is covered with spangle make-up pencil so it all sparkles which, alas, can't be seen from the scanned picture.

All in all, I'm glad I'm done with it. Feels like I won't be touching brushes (which became really frayed during these 9+ years) anytime soon.
