Ouch. Poor birds.
I think they work well together. It's as if the feathers in the second one belongs to the victim of the bird in the first one.

I'm not sure if these should stand alone or work together. The second could certainly work by itself. Nice one, Mike. :~)

interesting pictures about the birds without the birds really present.

it reminds me of a very old chinese story that i read about a painting contest to illustrate poems.
the painters are told to illustrate a very famous verse from 'the west stream in Xu Zhou" 《滁州西涧》 by wei ying wu 韦应物:
the wild river is void of human trace,
only a stranded, lone boat.

the winning artist drew a raven on a lone boat. with the presence of a bird the idea of 'void of human trace' is made clear.

another one is the visual interpretation of:
trampled on petals on the return journey,
fragrance on the horse hooves.

the emperor of song dynasty zhao xianzhong has said to set this as one of the questions in the imperial exam. the top scholar who won the approval of his majesty drew a horse trotting with trails of butterflies and bees following the hooves.

i would think that such interpretation skill is more or less essential for good haiku making.

hope to hear more from you, mike. :)

I like your random bird thoughts. The presence of a bird is heightened by what is not seen.

A wonderful pairing. Each vivid in imagery and idea in their own way.

Thanks for sharing, hun
