Description

So to finish off the first Jurassic Trilogy, here I have Jurassic Park III...... I do enjoy this film, but not a masterpiece.
The film is directed by Joe Johnston (who replaced Spielberg) and this film sees the return of Sam Neill as Dr Alan Grant, also starring in this film is William H Macy, Tea Lioni, Trevor Morgan, Alessandro Nivola, Michael Jeter and a brief return of Laura Dern.

Dr Alan Grant is struggling for funds for his Velociraptor research and worries that he may have to abandon his work. A wealthy gentleman Paul Kirby (H Macy) is offering to fund Grant's research if he agrees to a guided tour of Site B for him and his wife Amanda (Lioni) for their wedding anniversary. So far things seem to be going to plan, but soon Alan and his colleague Billy Brennan (Nivola) realise that there is more to the Kirby's ''tour'' than they thought, after an encounter with the Spinosaurus, the truth is revealed that the Kirby's are a divorced couple and are searching for their son Eric (Morgan) who has been missing for 8 weeks. Now stranded, Alan, Billy and the others search for Eric and then find away of leaving the Island.

Right away this is a shorter film and I think after The Lost World went on slightly too long, it is nice to have something that is straight to the point, the acting of Sam Neill was excellent as always, the introduction of the Spinosaurus was a welcome addition to the franchise and the just the more simple story -though I will say they played it too safe and too basic in terms of story telling and direction.

Now I am someone who likes this film and to some extend I will defend some of the choices made, but some things could have (and should have) been done better such as giving Laura Dern some real involvement in the plot rather than only making a few brief scenes in the beginning and near the end of the film.

My Score: 7 / 10
No real surprises here, just a simple film which I think is underrated.
