I’m not really someone who mixes his political views with my art, but good grief. It’s a sad state of affairs, when every time I watch or read the news I feel like I’m watching/reading a piece of fiction set in a Dystopia future.
And my critique would be to push this composition a bit further.
There is not a lot of distinction between the foreground, middle and background. For one, all your elements share a similar color scheme (black and white). This also makes it harder to get the feel of depth or distance.
One remedy would be to make the background (the city backdrop) less saturated or less focused... like depth of field from a camera. The details are way to sharp and they want to compete with the foreground elements.
Also the main subject could be a different color than other elements. Let's say all the uniforms of the police and their vehicles are shades of black, while our main subject is wearing all white... or red. Or the police could have a more military look...
Compared to how the riot police looked like in Ferguson.
Another remedy, could be changing the lighting to focus more on your main subject. Heck, a soft, very diffused spotlight might work. While the main subject is well lit and his details are vibrant, all the other subjects outside him would be in shadow, their details slightly less evident.
Anyways. All these things are easier said than done... rendering some elements separately and compositing them in Photoshop may help! But I love this piece. Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
but the one I find disturbing is the recent incident with a man who had a carry permit, and was compliant, yet still got shot?
WTF does it take?
You must didn't see the one where the guy is oulled over in a gas station and as he exits his vehical the olice pulls up. and ask him for license and regs.. The guy turns to get them and is shot standing there.. Hes laying on the ground and asks in shock.. Why did you shoot me?
Most of these cases are people who can't grasp the fact the yes, the cops can put their hands on you.
Disobeying the lawful commands of a police officer is a crime in itself.
That said, why shoot a guy who is doing everything right?
I don't know, I wasn't there, and there's no vid of the actual shooting.
However this is the reason dashcam and body cams are a good thing.
The fat-face newsboy got on my nerves too.
I meant the more recent Minnesota case, there's no vid I'm aware of...I'm starting to think a cop "gun cam" might be a better choice.
Of course it wouldn't matter if cops had those weird guns from the anime "Psycho Pass", tragic mistakes would still happen because humans gotta human.
The difference being in our Dystopian futures our characters deserve it! LOLOL!
You should make it larger so that we can see more detail!!!
