Through the Rye pg 283

Hello from Project Comment. I haven’t read any of this comic series and don’t really know anything about it. So for this commentary I will just be going off of what I see on this page right here. First off, the art style and font style remind me of the old comic strips you used to read in the old newspapers. That stylized yet quickly drawn looks that suggests it was done to meet a certain deadline, but also demonstrate that hard work and effort went into it. Not sure if that is what you were going for but that’s just the vibe I’m getting. Interesting choice in leaving the comic black and white. Coloring it in could have given it a brighter feel that made it seem almost cartoony. However the black and white makes it give off an more dark and gritty vibe. Almost like some 1950s noir story. I give the viewer the impression something bads is going to happen while also making it feel closer to reality. There are some areas however where I think you could improve. For instance, in the top left panel we see the woman has only four fingers on her left hand. I know some artists do this intentionally for style, but just incase be wary of anatomy details like that. In the panel with the car going down the highway this might just be me, but that looks like a lot of smoke for a cigaret. Finally, in the middle left panel her hair could use a bit more shading. Overall it serves it’s purpose and has an interesting appearance to the reader. Thats what really matters here.
