This is just a short journal entry to remind everyone that today (May 2) is the tenth anniversary of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was on this day ten years ago that the first entry in the MCU--Iron Man--premiered in theaters. And what a journey we've had since then, with nineteen movies and ten TV series and counting. Here's to Kevin Feige and all the wonderful people at Marvel Studios for what they've given us over the past ten years. Here's hoping for another ten years ahead of us, with even more movies and TV shows that expand the MCU even further.
R.I.P. Kirk Douglas
It is my sad duty to report that the legendary actor Kirk Douglas, one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood, has passed away today at the very ripe old age of 103. R.I.P., Mr. Douglas. You were a great actor and will surely be missed.
Why you should avoid FX's 2019 A Christmas Carol
H there, everyone. I bet some of you out there have heard about FX's new version of "A Christmas Carol" that's going air on the night of December 19, 2019. You've probably seen some of the trailers for it, too. I would like to ask every decent person who loves Charles Dickens in general and "A Christmas Carol" in particular not to watch this version. I've read about it online and it's basically the core characters and plot of the book taken in a direction that Dickens would have been disgusted and repulsed by. It just takes the classic original story and loses sight of everything that makes it so beloved by others, making it much too dark, depressing, "adult" and cynical. It loses the special balance between darkness and ghostly horrors and lightness and Christmas cheer that made the original story so special and just goes over to pure darkness, gloom, and horror. It throws in new scenes of violence and death (not present in the original) just to add to the drama and shock value. It
R.I.P. Carroll Spinney
It is my incredibly sad duty to report that Carroll Spinney, the original performer of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on "Sesame Street" and a fixture on the show since the very beginning, has passed away at the age of 85. As one of millions of people around the world who grew up watching Spinney's characters on "Sesame Street" as a child, I can say with certainty that he will be deeply missed. RIP, Mr. Spinney. Our days are all going to be a little less sunny without you around.
RIP Stan Lee
It is my sad duty to announce that Stan Lee, the legendary creator of Spider-Man, Iron, Thor, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, X-Men, Daredevil, and many other classic Marvel characters, has died today at the age of 95. He will be sorely missed. RIP, Mr. Lee. RIP.
