Description
Here’s my lineup for the Skarloey Railway.
Top row, left to right:
1. Skarloey. Skarloey is the oldest engine on the railway. He’s the sage of the railway and an old, faithful engine. He’s a calm-natured, quaint, and mature engine and may often try to guide or watch over less experienced narrow gauge engines in his firm, but, fair and friendly manner. He acts kindly to engines and passengers alike and always enjoys a gentle, smooth journey through the woods by the lakeside and stopping at all the gates and stiles he remembers so well.
2. Rheneas. Rheneas has been called a “gallant old engine” before and deserves such a title. He’s highly determined, brave, and courageous. Despite his age, he’s a tough, committed worker who takes great responsibility in his work. He’s keen to keep his friends smiling and, although he’s a level-headed engine, can be a bit of an adventurer as well. Though he may often try to struggle on alone, he knows when to call on the help of his friends. Nevertheless, Rheneas is always highly dedicated to the task at hand.
3. Sir Handel. Though he’s matured from his youth as Falcon, Sir Handel still has a bit of an ego problem. During his time at the Aluminum Works, he had an accident that resulted in his nameplate falling off and getting melted down. When the Owner and the Thin Controller came to purchase him and Stuart, the Owner gave him the name Sir Handel.
4. Peter Sam. Though he’s matured from his youth as Stuart, Peter Sam still retains his enthusiastic personality. Like Sir Handel, Peter Sam was involved in an accident at the Aluminum Works that lead to his nameplate falling off and getting melted down. After being purchased by the Owner and the Thin Controller, Stuart was renamed Peter Sam after the Thin Controller.
5. Rusty. Rusty is a trusty, tame, friendly little diesel. He’s a dedicated worker, often maintaining the line while understanding and respecting the importance of his duties. He’s quick to remind others with regards to proper conduct, particularly Duncan, who was initially very suspicious of the little diesel. But, despite their arguments, they seem to make amends in the end because of Rusty’s kind and tolerant personality.
6. Duncan. Due to working in a factory, Duncan is a plain, blunt engine with rough manners and a strong temper. He means well, but, is known for complaining even if there’s nothing to complain about. He can also be rude, rough, stubborn, and bad-tempered. He can be even more impulsive than Sir Handel and makes rash decisions that lead to his own downfall. In spite of his rough ways, Duncan can be a little misunderstood as he’s a focused, confident, resourceful, and has a big heart, always willing to help out whenever he can and he wants to be really useful.
7. Ivo Hugh. Named after the foreman of the Skarloey Railway, Ivo is the youngest engine on the railway and relies on the knowledge of the older engines.
8. Duke. Duke hasn’t really changed much since his MSR days.
Middle Row left to right:
9: Fred. Built with parts from another diesel, Fred didn’t always work right. Rusty often thought Fred pretended to be ill to get out of work, but, soon came to realize that Fred did legitimately fall ill often after hearing about Henry’s early days. Once Fred’s problems were sorted out, Fred proves just how reliable he is.
10. Atlas. After working on a tramway from Cregwir to Harwick, Atlas’ rough demeanor was smoothed out. His French accent is also a bit faded.
11. Jim. Even after his time at the Aluminum Works, Jim is still as patient as they come.
12. Tim. After working on the same tramway as Atlas, Tim has grown more patient.
13. John. Hard-working as ever, John is a bit jaded from working at the Aluminum Works.
14. Alfred. After being trapped in a mineshaft for years, Alfred has had ample time to think of how to improve himself. While not completely amiable, he’s far less abrasive.
15. Albert. After working on the Corris Railway for a few years, Albert is a more experienced engine.
16. Freddie. Freddie is known for being a bit of a daredevil in his youth. He’s learned about the route and hidden tracks in his younger days and new them like the back of his buffers.
EX. Mark V. Mark V is a petrol-driven trolley used by Mr. Ivo Hugh to patrol the line. He’s not built to pull trains like the other engines, but, he doesn’t mind. He’s content to patrol the line and keep the engines in order.
Bottom row left to right:
17. Mighty Mac. Two engines in one, this Double Fairlie engine is quite a mixed bag. One end is Mighty, the older of the two by a few seconds who has a slightly inflated sense of self-importance. The other end is Mac, the younger of the two with more ambition. When the two work together, they’re the strongest engine on the railway. When they don’t, they push each other backwards and forwards only to end up back where they started. When asked which one is facing forward, neither can honestly give a straight answer.
18. Bertram. After he was rebuilt into a tank engine as Smudger, Bertram’s attitude changed for the better and he was finally free of his jinx, something he was especially pleased with. After being rebuilt to resemble Duke, his new positive attitude stuck.
19. Jennings. Cheery and upbeat as ever, Jennings temporarily worked on a heritage railway before the Thin Controller purchased her.
20. Andreas. After working in a factory prior to the closure of the MSR, Andreas gained a newfound respect for industrial engines and as a result, is a much humbler engine on the SKR.
21. Stanley. After a brief tenure as a museum piece, Stanley retains his work ethic and Philadelphian accent.
22. Luke. As a hard worker and good friend, Luke came to Sodor years ago on a cargo ship with an engine he later learned was named Victor. For years, Luke thought it was his fault Victor fell into the sea and hid in the Blue Mountain Quarry, only letting a select few know about him. After learning the truth, Luke no longer hides himself.
23. Jerry. While still a jokester from his early days, Jerry is a wiser engine.
