Baldwin Duplex Demo by mrbill6ishere Baldwin Duplex Demo by mrbill6ishere
This is my idea for if Baldwin had built a proposed Duplex steam engine demonstrator.

Basically, it would have likely been a 4-4-4-4 versions of the S1 6100. Thus the engine.

In my alternate history. It would have been tested on several railroads. Among them were the Pennsylvania, the Baltimore and Ohio, the New York Central, the Southern, the Illinois Central, the Norfolk and Western, the Burlington, the Union Pacific, the Louisville and Nashville, among other railroads.

Though the original design was never duplicated, it DID inspire the creation of the New York Central and Southern's own duplexes later on. As well as an inspiration for the ATSF cab forward duplexes in the 60s.

But the idea was not spread until the Santa Fe built their cab forward oil burners in the 60s and the ACE 3000s.
