The film 42: The True Story of an American Legend was released on April 12th, 2013 to generally positive reviews and those reviews were well deserved. Its portrayal of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play baseball in the Major Leagues, is respectful. It does an adequate job of retelling baseball the Hall of Famer's rise to glory and his role in fighting segregation. Unfortunately, 42's very emphasis on that role weakens the film. By so focusing on Robinson's, the film disrespects him as a man.
