A loong standing hobby project of mine, something id work on when I had a spare hour, (whilst listening to the great "toothless" podcasts by :iconjpmoore: (go google or do yourself a great discervice) . As such the piece is mostly an indulgence in details and other things I enjoy to paint.

Hope you like it.

Truly fantastic.

This image is reminiscent of the Hero's Shade from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Looks like a formidable opponent...

Yeah I guess your right (he is the dude that trains you isnt he?)

cheers,

Yep. I often wonder who he was before he died.

One of Link's ancestors, perhaps...?

Wow - this is fantastic work!

How long would you guess this took you? *grumble* I wish I had the patience and talent that you did to make such beautiful work.

PS - sorry I always have a buttload of compliments ^^; (Sounds like a strange apology) - if I ever see something that I think could be fixed, I'll be more than willing to be helpful! I promise. XD

Never feel sorry about complimenting me because I am very suceptable to flaterry ;) . Seriously though, I like compliments because they are optimistic uplifting things, and as long a you mean em they are certainly very welcome. I also hope, that, when you see flaws, or dont like something that you post that as well! :)

thank you,

Nick

And you didn't bottle it on the background! Love it mate, seriously good work. And I agree that everyone should be listening to 'Toothless!' :)
mr-nick's avatar
yeah the background, turns out the trick is to relax and have a pint while painting it. Let go of you inner control freak and open up to happy accidents.... yeah I dindt convice my self either, but that pint part was true. Glad you like it though.

cheers,

nick

Cool stuff goin on there mate! I like what you've done with the background and surroundings- very atmospheric!

im glad you like it. I worked hard to make this feel like an illustration, rather than "a dude posing" (even though its just "a dude posing").

thanks,

nick

o very cool
I'm really drawn to the green effects around the sword!
its awesomely painted.
If I were to crit, it would be the earth hes standing on, it feels like it might crumble (esp since hes poking his sword through it too), you could try make more interesting shapes with that rock face!
overall I think you've captured a really nice atmosphere!

thanks Jeffrey,

painting glowy effects is always fun, and I always tone it down in the end because I totally go overboard with it (im glad I remebered too keep those effects in their own layer this time :D ).

I have to admit I am a bit lazy when It comes down to paint soemthing other than characters. So yeah, I could have breathed more life into those rocks.

cheers,

Nick

It's great work.

The only thing I'd add, but this strays away from the goal of this image, would be more color in the shadows, a play of cool and warm colors, instead of plain black, and some play with reflected light. But, as I said, this would take the image in a different direction.

For the direction you've taken it, it's excellent!
