My Bio

Teenage angst has paid off well, now I'm bored and old.

Favourite Bands / Musical Artists
As of late, it's mainly been Big Black, The Prodigy, and Richard D. James. Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Metallica, and Skinny Puppy are my staples though. I listen to tons of other stuff too.
Favourite Games
I'm partial to Jezzball and Tetris (and clones thereof), as well as classic FPSs, arcade racers, and oldschool Nintendo-esque stuff. I like games with bright colors, fast action, and tight controls.
Favourite Gaming Platform
GLORIOUS PC MASTER RACE!!! Retro consoles are cool too.
Tools of the Trade
Duct tape, a tube of Krazy Glue, a box cutter, and a soldering iron!
Other Interests
Computer hardware and software, food and drink, nerd culture, pharmacology, sociology, and armchair psychology. Yay for ologies!

So I started playing Touhou recently...

I downloaded a copy of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil after seeing a shitpost on Twitter the other day saying not to make it your first Touhou game due to the difficulty of running it on modern PCs. I figured that since I was running Linux, and the Touhou games were known to work well in Wine, I decided to try it out. It worked great... other than the resolution being small. XD I spent way too much time trying to figure out how to get integer scaling working with Wine, and I ended up nuking my EndeavourOS install twice since I was getting frustrated with screwing things up while trying to get it to work. Eventually, a Reddit user I was discussing the issue with found a solution, and it worked great! Then, not long afterwards, I realized my copy of the game was using a really old translation patch, and that there were newer patches out there along with ones to fix the video and speed issues. While I was looking for an untouched unpatched Japanese copy of the game to apply the newer

I can't stand the new watch notifications UI

I finally figured out how to access it, after not checking it in bloody ages, and ugh, it's horrible. I don't know what DA's UI designers were thinking when they designed this crap, but I hate it. I know it's been about a year since Eclipse was widely released, and almost a year since they made it mandatory, but given how little I use this site nowadays, I only just found out now how horribly implemented this part of the UI is. I swear, it's like DA was purposefully trying to kill off what remained of its already dying userbase when they made Eclipse mandatory. I haven't given up on the site, despite hardly ever using it anymore, because this is a community I've been a part of for a long time, and there's something about it that I still love. Coming here reminds me of simpler, more innocent times, before I started getting embroiled in online drama and discourse. It'll be a very, very sad day for me when DA finally closes its doors, and I'm afraid that that may happen within only a

Do I get a veteran's discount?

I've been here since 2008, and I barely post anything anymore, but I still drop by when I'm bored and find cool stuff that I've never seen before. A lot's changed since I first joined this site as a teenager, and digging through my old faves can be like peering into a time capsule for me. I know the Eclipse layout has driven away many of the site's veterans, and I even noticed a shift away from DA around the early-mid 2010s, which I think was driven by the increased popularity of mobile devices and social media services optimized for them. From what I can surmise, lot of people moved to Tumblr due to that and its formerly lax policies on NSFW content. Of course, when Tumblr enacted its infamous NSFW ban a few years ago, there was a huge shift towards Twitter... which is honestly a terrible platform for sharing artwork, if you ask me. The very nature of the site's design is just not at all suited for hosting art portfolios or allowing people to freely dig into an artist's older
