Literature Text

A girl with first names and numbers scribbled on a napkin in her pocket walks from a bar, breaking off from her group of laughing friends with a cheery smile and wave.
A boy in a two-person apartment stands numb as two soldiers change his life with three words.
A girl returns to her home, finding it empty but for a hastily scribbled note with three words and a man's signature.
A boy rides in a violently bucking armored car as explosions rattle about, throwing dirt and road high into the air.
A girl argues with a suited man in a bank, throwing down a list of crossed-off companies as he shakes is head apologetically.
A boy runs in utter terror as bullets snap through the air and his comrades drop heavily into the mud, screaming into the fire-lit night.
A girl sits sadly with a packed backpack on the steps of an apartment building while several men in plain uniforms carry furniture into a truck.
A boy grabs the vest of another soldier, pulling hard as he runs to a nearby helicopter, only to look back and find that the body he's dragging has no legs.
A girl is shown to the exit of an office in which she was thanked for her interest in their business.
A boy in uniform stabilizes the helmeted head of a soldier as two others with red crosses on their arms work quickly on  his chest.
A girl is kicked out of a restaurant and stands at the curb, waiting for a bus she can't afford to take.
A boy ducks as the side of a building explodes over his convoy, from which he starts shooting in the same direction as the other men.
A girl huddles behind a dumpster as her breath flashes before her eyes in the cold light of a parking garage.
A boy is carried on a stretcher by four soldiers jogging towards a waiting helicopter as sounds of combat fill the distant air.
A girl is found slumped against the side of a building by three of her friends, who take her in coats and arms to a safe place.
A boy is lowered into the ground by several men in uniform, surrounded by people dressed in black.
A girl stands close to a tree away from the group in acceptable-looking but filthy clothes, tear-filled eyes watching a wooden box vanish under the lawn.
Listening to Amy MacDonald's This Is The Life again brought this to my mind. A story of a girl who tries to find work in a poor economy while her roommate gets drafted, being sent to a hopeless war and taking their one shared income with.
Unable to find work, the girl's evicted and forced onto the streets, where she becomes increasingly un-hire-able while the boy is plunged head-first into a hellhole he's not prepared for.
The girl is finally found by caring friends, but the only person who gets a happy ending is the boy who's sent home from the war under a folded flag.

PS: The first line makes her seem like a slut or callgirl, but those are possible job openings she's written down.

Interesting rendition. Are these the exact lyrics to the song, or were they inspired by it?
