Disclaimer: While all of the Mothcats admins actively participate in the group as normal members, it is also our responsibility to enforce the rules when need be. Any admin who is ranked "Mothcat Court" or higher has the ability to send out verbal warnings and infractions as seen fit. All major administrative decisions operate on a majority-vote ruling. Member bans will never be passed out unless there is a unanimous vote among the admins.

All members are expected to follow the Species Terms and Conditions. By joining Mothcats, you automatically accept these terms. It is your responsibility to read them and familiarize yourself with our rules. The top priority of Mothcats is to provide a safe and positive environment for its members and community. Rule breakers will be handled objectively based on their behavioral record both inside and outside of the group.

Members who break the rules will receive warnings and/or infractions via note. After three infractions, users will be placed under review by the Mothcats admins. It is possible to be banned after one infraction based on the severity of the action and/or threat level of any particular user.

Users who are on this blacklist have been banned from Mothcats and are not allowed to participate in events, obtain new Mothcats, or make new accounts to bypass their status. Do not sell, trade, or gift Mothcats to these users. Any attempt to do so will be denied at the Masterlist. Should a banned member contact you in any way, shape, or form about obtaining your Mothcat, please report it via note to the group or floramisa immediately.

Only users who have been active in the community will be mentioned below. This list is is only available for public view for our members' protection when selling/trading/gifting their Mothcats. Users who are on probation are not on this list for their protection.

General questions or concerns can be asked on this journal. For specific user inquiries, please note the group or floramisa for more information.

Do not post on this journal to report a user who is breaking the rules. Send the group or floramisa a note to have your report reviewed.

Lastly, please refrain from speaking ill of specific users in this journal AND do not harass these users. This public list is here to provide protection against potential scammers and otherwise troublesome users. It should not be used to incite drama.

Community Blacklist

Pugnessness - Banned 01/30/2016
Warned for harassing members about trading/co-owning their Mothcats, even when they were clearly listed as not UFT/S by their respective owners. Received another warning for trying to trade their Mothcat under the 2-week trading restriction. Received their first infraction after attempting to offer their Mothcat within the 2-week trading restriction to another user despite being warned previously about it. Received their second infraction after attempting to sell their MYO Mothcat for $20 when the original price was $10-- it should be noted that MYO Mothcats cannot be sold regardless. Received third infraction after noting another Mothcats member an offer to sell their MYO Mothcat under the condition that they did not tell floramisa about the sale. Denied the allegation even after being provided screenshot proof of their actions. After receiving at least two warnings and three infractions in under a month, it was a unanimous decision by the admins to ban this user from the group.

sumw1 - Banned 03/26/2016
Blatantly plagiarized Mothcats features and content even when clearly instructed not to. All incriminating evidence can be found here with side-by-side comparisons to the original Mothcats content.
Update: 03/26/2016 at 10:14 am - Sent floramisa a note claiming a "friend" had logged into their account and plagiarized the Mothcats content, even though there is evidence that they had been taking Mothcats content even before asking for permission to reference the group. Also made a public excuse on the Dakey front page using the same excuse. [Comment Timestamp] [Earliest Timestamp]

DracaKamala - Banned 06/04/2016
Made a journal that blatantly disrespected artist/admin work and openly complained about the pricing. Disregarded the note that their mentor sent them in response to the journal and attempted to guilt trip the mentor after being notified of their poor behavior. Continued harassing the mentor after being told specifically to stop. Had a friend note the mentor involved with an attempted guilt trip. Continued disrespect to the Mothcats admin team (including the mentor) over multiple days.

FrogCandy - Banned 06/24/2016
Originally Pugnessness. User is guilty of ban evasion by creating another account to join the group. Attempted to trade a Mothcat under the two-week trade restriction. This user has been permanently banned and will not be able to appeal after six months.

Ivy-pelt and All Associated Accounts of "Catherine Hu" - Banned on 01/19/2020
This user is a known scammer within and outside of the CS community, and has been known to impersonate others, trace artwork, and fail to pay for bases and other art services. As such, they have been banned from participation in Mothcats.

Users who have been banned from Mothcats may be eligible to appeal their status after six (6) months. Contact Mothkitten or note the group directly for details.

I checked all the links and updated the one link under @/sumw1's entry, here: sta.sh/2lidtrlssf0

The Mothcats directory in my stash got deleted on accident some time ago, so a bunch of files went missing. I sent in a ticket to the Help Desk and recovered as many files as possible. I can't access the recovery folder to sort them out again, however, so links to folders are all "deleted".

I apologize for the inconvenience!

A blacklist is a list of users that are banned from the group.

Pugnessness looks like it is now a deactivated account, just a heads up.

I think its easier for them to keep this up as a reminder, if s/he does come back again or s/he makes a similarly named account and tries to rejoin.

Please refrain from making bad comments about users banned from the group in public. Despite their behavior towards the group, all users should still be treated publicly with respect. Remember that this journal is only here to protect our current users - not to shame those who have been banned.

If you have any comments/concerns about anything here, please do not hesitate to note me or the group! We will be happy to listen and share our thoughts about certain matters in private.

I think it's good you said that, I know some groups that allow many members to shame and insult the banned users in public. At least your group has the decently to say that!
floramisa's avatar
floramisaHobbyist General Artist
Yeah, I understand! It makes me feel uncomfortable, personally, if rude comments are made somewhere public. I'm glad that most of our members are willing to oblige to the request though. ^^

It's very good that you said that, even if these people are banned, they don't deserve to be publicly shamed, it could make them feel worse. I know someone that was accused of stealing a species when they made offbrands, and they got banned. Then they saw public comments shaming them, even the owner of the species was shaming them. As a result, the person deactivated, very upset about the hurtful comments they were getting.

Oh wow, that's horrible! I would never wish that upon someone. : (

At Mothcats, we go about "off brand" species a bit differently. As long as the person creating/using the designs does not claim they're part of the Mothcats species, they have no threat of being persecuted or banned by us for using said designs. I know some other groups out there will ban you right off the bat for selling/using "off brand" designs, which is just silly to me... :U But to each their own, I guess!

I hope the person you're talking about is doing better now. dA can be an incredibly toxic place, and no one deserves that type of treatment.
GayMemeQueenMSP's avatar
GayMemeQueenMSPHobbyist Digital Artist
Yep, it was horrible. Exactley! They aren't doing any harm, and it's not stealing since they aren't claiming it as a species or claiming it to be part of the species. I also saw someone make an offbrand, and the species owner commented saying "Offbrands always look horrible, and never sell! And ew, that looks like an intestine tail!". I'm sure she's doing fine, I believe she still has her YouTube where she continues to post her art, so hopefully she's getting no hate there! Yes, it can be, it's very horrid that people would do such a thing, and the worst part is, you can't get them banned. As soon as they delete the link with proof, even screenshots don't work. And I've heard DeviantART only has twenty staff members to.

Let's hope that she is doing better and no stalkers followed her there! I'd be absolutely mortified if someone did that to me, honestly. ;;

I don't know about the staff members, but I do know that harassment and stuff is definitely taken lightly on dA. It's really sucky that some people can get away with the things they do, but we can only hope for the best. :\

So would I, and let's hope! I'll have to ask her and see if she's okay, I think it would be best for me to email her. Yes, it is horrible that dA takes harassment as something simple. I know of a dangerous scammer on here, and she still has accounts open. The thing is, deviantART doesn't take screenshots as proof

Oh, and. I have created a group for my own species and I was just wondering if I could include some things that you guys have. Example: Bank, craft shop ID card? It's only these~~ If not, it's ok~~

None of those ideas are specific to Mothcats, so you don't have to ask to implement them. It would only be a problem if you copied everything essentially word-for-word, same formatting, setup, etc.

The best way to avoid copying us is to not reference our system when writing/creating your own templates.
I had an issue with an unnamed dA user where they asked me for advice on how I ran my group because they wanted to start an ARPG. They then copied everything directly off of Mothcats, down to the exact wording with the names changed. When confronted, they changed the order of some phrasing and renamed the bank to something else, but everything was essentially still the same. While it's not as obvious as before, their group still contains very clear remnants of the Mothcats influence. I also have screenshots of when things were worded exactly the same.

This particular user is unaffiliated with Mothcats and is not on our public ban list, but I can assure you that they are 100% banned from Mothcats due to this incident.

(I should note that 'referencing' in this context means looking at our original examples and then writing your features based off of what you see in our group. It's just like writing a research report - look over the research material and then minimize the tab. Write the content based on the ideas of what you remember, rather than rewording/rephrasing an example.)

Thanks! I am only using for reference!

The terms and conditions are pretty cut and dry. It's somehow gratifying to see how organized this ban list is

Thank you very much!

We strive to be as clear as possible about our terms to avoid sticky situations. ^^
