'Anime Wolves'

'Anime wolves' stolen artwork for commercial gain

So this is a trend that's come to my attention through SEVERAL journals by artists whose art has been stolen without their permission and used.

This affects not only the artist but also the character owners if that artist has done art for them on a commission. Both the artist and commissioner (character owner(s)) should be asked for permission to use the art before it can be used. This wouldn't be too big an issue except NO credit is given, no links provided and these people are making MONEY through the google adsense option.

Where can you find these videos? Just search 'anime wolves' into youtube and have a look. You'll likely find hundreds of stolen artwork all being used to make money by people who pieced the videos together.

So if your an artist or character owner go and have a look, if you see art you recognize even if its not yours; challenge it and report the video (especially if they have comments disabled).

Help spread the word about this if you have friends and artists who may be affected! I'm going to be tagging people I know whose artwork I've already seen stolen or people who I think may be at risk and I'd advise you all to do the same.

This is late but
I remember watching Anime Wolf videos when I was younger. I just guessed that they had asked to use the images, but I was wrong.
After seeing your post, I looked up Anime Wolves. Sure as all hell, they didn't ask. I did see some people who linked the images back to the artist, but they still didn't ask. A few of the images in the videos even had big ass watermarks that read; "DO NOT STEAL! DO NOT POST THIS ARTWORK ANYWHERE ELSE. -The artist"

It's sad to see this. Pisses me off personally.

Oh dear, hopefully I don't see my art in there. '' To be honest I don't think my art is good enough to be on youtube, unless ye have seen it. Luckily I have my signature on most of them.
I have seen one of the benevolent paintings on there, but I think that some of them really like the art and maybe wants to share it, without giving proper credit. But there are a lot that don't give credit or have claimed that the art is theirs. >.< Hopefully this will stop soon.!~

legit salty that someone who just puts music against pictures on a slow pan then uses word art to say "thanks for watching" at the end has more subs and views than me who records and spends hours editing them into speed paints of the creation.

It's a pretty decent thing to be salty about Dil, I would be too tbh!!!

I put a lot of work into my videos too and if anyone stole mine you'd bet your backside I'd be on the rage!

I never knew that one could make profit from it... owo Have to admit that I used to watch them too and never really thought as far as that.
But it is disappointing to see those people acting completely oblivious when confronted with the matter...

Thank you for clearing that up and the notification!

To be honest, I don't think they get some money from it? Youtube music copyrights doesn't allow get any money from  them I guess? Or I didn't understand the thing. Cause I don't see any other ways of making money from such clips.

If not THAT thing, i would't see anything bad in making art slideshows, its a thing for 13 years old that bring you into fandom, isn't that good XD? Ofc, I wish people would credit artists, but I guess there is no MEP,AMV, any informatic video, where ALL pictures are linked...it will be like neverending list ? :P
Like c'mon, this thing about copyright gets a bit weird. Like, you can't use picture you found on internet for music slideshow with arts, just for fun? its a free video and maker don't get money from it. Just more people will see your art, commissioner's OC. After that, it's like a fandom from young people. When they will grow, they will probably forget it or become part of artist fandom, isn't it?

What I am trying to say ( but it's a bit hard ) - there is no point to block video, there is a point to make these kind of young video editors educated about using arts for such stuff, like asking permissions, giving credits and using less random artists in one vid. Like a full video for several artists, hmm, sounds like nice add for artist XD
I wish we could work like together nicely. But such "animu wolvies" thing is just annoying, half of characters are not even wolves. It's just a problem that way too young not understanding a thing people can post vids on YT, like, i was stupid back in times and did such videos as well, I just didn't have a chance to post them.

Kinda sad thing, cause it's absolutely clear we should say them about "you can't just use it" but at same time, we look a bit rude X'D imagine yourself as a person who just likes puting pics together and then someone says you made a big mistakes taking it, while it was a picture you could google and thought it was just a "picture" OMG I would be scared as f back in my 12-13 XD

Thank for notificating me, since youtube getting a place for earning money, such a normal videos for fun can become real trouble, if video makers will get money from this without our permissions. World is changing and it seems hobbies become more serios, like " you should get into copyright before you post fun vid"
I didn;t ever payed attention for it, like, just a "kids vids" for same aged people I would never ever google or watch, BUT now, knowing that you can get money from adds..UGH, wait, it's a trouble.
____

BUT UH, if they really making money from it, I must say WTF - they are clever enough to get money from youtube, but not for understanding copyright ????!!! That's something impossible looking for me XD it seems I get old

Hope I explaine my thoughts clear and you get what I think :P Didn't find myself is random vids, but I saw :iconautlaw: there, wonder what she thinks about this weird situation

The thing is I last year had two girls being connected to a youtube network. Which provides licenses for music and gives them exposure,  but at the same time the creators SELL! rights
to the content of the channel such as videos, logos, profile pics etc. to the network , now if you don't own anything from you videos, you sell other peoples stuff ! And also if the pop song doesn't have a content ID you can still profit of till it gets detected..... also children under the age of 13 should not be on youtube the  to begin with its against the ToS  of the site. Also yes thier young but it's still copyright infringement like uploading a movie to youtube and if you do something wrong you have to face consequences  matter how old you are . If a 12 year old walks into a store and steals an item he also won't be just able able to get away because he's young ....

Yeah I totally get it and I agree with the most part on everything you said. It's great they're practicing editing skills and how to google things and the majority of them are young. However to ignore the legal part of it and not feeding back you end up making the issue worse.

Here's an example:

13 year old steals art and makes these videos using copyright music too. They don't know any better.
Then at 15 year old they maybe start to do the same with movies... maybe famous movies, like Lion King and Bambi and stuff and still don't see anything wrong with it (this is where I started too).
If uneducated and not taught the right rules of copyright... that same person could go onto stealing full videos and clips from other youtubers, re-uploading them as their own content.

Now for bi companies like Disney they're not going to care! HEY! Free advertisement right? Unless it's got major spoilers they're not gonna care as much. However for people who use youtube as a job aka: small content creators they're actually stealing money from them. Even though the person who has stolen clips / the full video isn't moneitising it with adsense they're taking views AWAY from the original content creator and THAT impacts their income.

The same thing could be said for artists. Say an artists content is featured in a video and that person gets less views on their art here on deviantart (because the youtuber who used the image isn't linking it back to the original creator) then that 'free advertisement' term becomes redundant. What's worse? people watching the youtube video may assume that the person who made the video did all the artwork and then the artist gets a backlash of comments on their art saying it's stolen.

So while I understand what you're saying and I think the advertisement for the artist is a good idea this whole concept of not crediting the artist makes it redundant. Also we're letting children get away with assuming this is correct and that they're not breaking laws?

It's like saying; 'it's okay that he stole money from you, he's just a child. He'll grow out of it, he didn't know what he was doing.'

Well let's EDUCATE them? To stop it happening again?

(Thanks for notifing) I'm sure everyone who reads this knows that we've all watched these sorta videos before. One... I can tell from what I've through so far xD .. and Two... I mainly usually watch them for the music that they play. I'm also pretty sure that we've all seen in these sorta of videos' descriptions something along the lines of 'To the Artists... I KNOW THESE AREN'T MINE BUT LIKE.. I JuSt Like them yanno!?'

I just don't get how they don't get the idea to credit people properly... like c'mmon dude, smartin' up will ya. I mean I get it... the occasional image that may have a small or blurry sig. on it but tgere are ways to search this stuff up Ey~ Go to Google's homepage and click that little image icon near the search bar... you can put the image that you've saved there and Google will look for the most recent upload site for that damn picture.

While I still enjoy these sorts of clips (again, mainly for the music).. I have never come across any of anyone I know. Again thank you Mosco for bringing it back to out attention... if you come across any that may seem like anything of mine please note?? ^^' And I'll be looking out for everyone else too. Though, the money-making bit is a bit surprising for me to say thr least. Because y'know.. the videos are typically made by young teens and kids who are mostly bored and don't know any better yadaYadaYada... I find it super surprising that there are some who really 'know'*not* what they're getting into and are trying to make money off of this kinda shit.

The worst thing was I saw a couple of videos yesterday where the artwork had giant 'DO NOT STEAL' letters on the side of them that the person making the video blatantly ignored. I get they're kids but if we don't educate them, then we're basically saying this is okay to do.

Damn... that's so fucked. Though I get what y'er sayin'. I know that my school used to be very intense when it came to stealing and robbing other people's work. While they didn't mainly talk about photos too much... and it was mainly for text... our art teacher managed that pretty well. If it's not your art, then it's not art (I think that was how she said it smh mainly... if it was someone else's idea/art/etc. Then don't say it was your's

Not everyone will be making profit but some are and then if they've used music the record holder for the music firm slaps advertisements onto the video so THEY can make money because they're songs are used... yet the artists don't even get credit? It's just wrong...

I knew these videos were being spread around. I thought it was just a simple trend that people took up when they were bored. Little did we know how deep this whole thing ran, huh?(Well if you can consider making profit deep.)

If I see any artwork/characters/commissions etc. being used, I will report the bastards. Because guess what guys?? We can pin these videos as theft, because they are stealing the image without the consent of the owner, or crediting the artist..

If any of your characters are found (besides the one you have posted already) in these videos, I will let you know Mosco. Because it is very disrespectful to not just the artist who put sweat, time, and love into the drawing, but as well as the owner of that character who put love and time into designing him/her/it. And when someone commissions a piece, most likely it is for them to use personally. Unless they want their painting to be spread around like an STD.(I'm so sorry.. That was a bad reference I know, but I couldn't help it x'D)

It's important for us to educate them because they're clearly kids and they don't understand what they're doing is wrong. If we educate them and make them understand hopefully then they'll be smarter about the laws of copyright and smarter about the world! Technically... we're providing a service to society that way, one that Schools seem to ignore haha

Also STD haha xD

Some are getting profit, others are using music which big time record labels are claiming and slapping adverts onto the video so THEY can make money yet the artist earns NOTHING, not even recognition for their art?

If we educate them (most are like 13 - 14 year old kids) then they will grow up a little wiser to the world and learn that actually it's a form of stealing. I'm sure they'd HATE IT if we took the entire video and re-uploaded it. They'd call us thieves but it's the same thing?

I knew about these videos I just to watch them._. but I thought that I live in small corner and tbh I didn't expect that my art can be ever used in them or recognised by someone. It's hurts people think that's only drawing, but for artist and owners it means more.. Thank you for letting me know I'll be more aware now
I hope that we can somehow stop them from making profits by using our hard work

Yeah I agree and I'm glad you mentioned not just the artist but the owners too. Some commissioners like myself pay a LOT of money for the art we receive (because we recognize artists deserve to have their work paid for) it isn't fair to us either.

I think this is one of the videos where the music label has applied the ads because of the copyright tag in the description. So it's the record labels who own the music who are making money. But still shocking that the artists aren't!!!

How absolutely disappointing. It's sad that after years and years of artists preaching "pls pls pls don't take what is not yours", ppl still turn around and shamelessly do things like this.
