Description

MOLDED IN THE EARLY DAYS OF THE MARSH REFINERY THESE ANTIQUE COINS FEATURE A STRANGE AND FOREIGN TENTACLED CREATURE. THEIR AGE IN UNKNOWN BUT IS SIMILAR IN STYLE TO ANTIQUE ROMAN COINS, MADE BEFORE MODERN ADVANCES IN GOLD REFINING. THEY ARE REMARKABLE NOT ONLY FOR THEIR HISTORY, BUT FOR THEIR SIZE - THEY ARE HUGE AT 1.75 INCHES IN DIAMETER - AND WEIGHT AS THEY PREDATE MORE MODERN COINS FROM INNSMOUTH AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET.

ON THE SIDE OF EACH A STRANGE MARK CAN BE SEEN POSSIBLY A SIGNATURE OF MARSH HIMSELF? SCHOLARS BELIEVE THESE MAY BE SOME OF THE FIRST GOLD COINS/CURRENCY USED IN THE TOWN AFTER MARSH'S BARGAIN WITH THE DEEP ONES.

THESE TARNISHED COINS WERE DISCOVERED IN A WRECKED VESSEL OFF THE COAST OF BRAZIL IN 2008. THEY HAVE BEEN IN PRIVATE HANDS SINCE THEN.

THEY WERE DISCOVERED IN A UNMARKED CASE INSIDE A LARGE CORRODED VAULT THAT WAS UNFORTUNATELY UNABLE TO BE SALVAGED. THERE WERE OVER 500 COINS IN ALL AND WE WERE ABLE TO OBTAIN 250 OF THEM!!

THE SHIP'S LOG REVEALED THAT THE VESSEL, A SPANISH FRIGATE CALLED THE PULPO ORO, HAD SAILED FROM MAINE TO BRAZIL AND STOPPED ALONG THE WAY AT NUMEROUS PORTS ALONG THE EAST COAST. ONE OF THESE STOPS DATED JUNE 17TH 1910 WAS IN THE PORT OF INNSMOUTH. THE PURPOSE OF THE COINS BEING HAULED DOWN TO SOUTH AMERICA IS UNKNOWN - RUMORS SUGGEST THE POSSIBILITY OF ANOTHER INNSMOUTH SETTLEMENT IN S.A. BUT THIS IS NOT CONFIRMED.

THIS IS THE LARGEST KNOWN RECOVERY OF INNSMOUTH GOLD IN RECENT YEARS.
