The emotion portrayed in this painting comes through immediately. The anatomy is very good and the body languages expresses the feelings of the character perfectly. Clearly a lot of time and effort was put into this painting and it shows.

The technique shows a great deal of progression artistically. I think it could be a little tighter in some areas. There is a lot of blurring of edges which detracts a little from the piece and gives it a not-quite-finished look. I would also like to mention that when painting skin, even fantasy skin, there should be a lot of colours to indicate blood in the skin and the different light falling on it. I've personally found that adding dark reds and purples for black skin shadows and yellows and greenish-blue for highlights works well.

I think the light source could be a little more clearly defined. At the moment I can see that it comes from the upper left, but there should be a few more shadows to indicate this.

One last thing is when you add designs like tattoos as a layer above the skin, you need to paint over them a little to make sure they look like they're a part of the skin. If you did this I apologise, but at the moment they look like they were applied as a hard light layer over the skin, rather than a part of it.

Way to go! You've come a hell of a long way!

P.S. Everything I've mentioned is a mistake I've made in the past. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/r/r…" width="15" height="15" alt="=P" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="397" title="=P (Razz)"/>

Hi BikerScout! I've watched you for a while now and been admiring your art for years. You're an absolute master at what you do and your work is breathtaking.

I've just recently gotten into traditional media, mostly been a digital artist since 2007. Been trying to do Inktober but life enjoys throwing obstacles in my way. However, what I've managed to produce has mostly been with the Faber-Castell PITT Artist pens, which I bought because I cannot get Copics where I am. Now, with some small amount of ingenuity I've managed to figure out how to use them to almost match what you can do with Copics, in a really roundabout way. But I've only been using them seriously since the start of Oc(Ink)tober. What I really do is paint with the ink itself. Which ends up looking rather a lot like your lovely rendering of the Emperor here. (Is he by any chance shouting 'Unlimited Power!'?)

So... since I'm mostly figuring things out as I go, may I ask what paper you would recommend? I've been using 300g/m watercolour paper because the way I'm working is  essentially very similar to watercolour. I have asked for Bristol, having never used it, and can't seem to find it. I actually have a good collection of Faber-Castell supplies as it's all I can reliably find here. So I have PITT brush pens, Polychromos and Albrecht-Durer pencils, and some misc gouache, watercolour and Promarkers. I also made a brush pen for myself by filling a waterbrush with India ink. Your videos on Youtube and your art have already given me ideas about how to use them all together.

Anyway, TLDR, do you have any advice for working with ink in washes and on what paper would be best?

Thanks for your time!

Aumau moon Godlike?

Did you make a sketchy watercolour one for the dialogue too? I'm considering making one for my Watcher. There's just aren't enough Godlike portraits :D

Awesome! Is that coloured pencil? I recently got into watercolour pencils myself. Got the really good ones. It's a LOT of fun. I forgot how relaxing and rewarding doing something traditionally could be.

Current game or past game?

Oh man I did this over ten years ago. I'm not sure why I gave her a tail at the time, but I'd probably remove it if I had to paint her again :)
