Edited by Fred WanBeyond the Kaiu Wall, the Shadowlands were silent. Not the forbidding stillness of a predator's gaze, nor the eerie stillness of which they were famous, the quiet of menace, the calm of death. This was a silence that stirred in the gentle brush of the wind, parting the haze of orange fire curtaining th...
The winds of the steppe would always whip through the vast, open grasslands that stood before them. With little to oppose them, the gales could reign unchecked, and unmitigated tyranny across the great green sea, as only the herds of grazing animals, their predators, and the endless blades of grass to bear witness. But today was not such a day. Upon the eerily still winds, rode a huge Condor, gazing down as he soared above the wide open spaces beneath his tightly-clutched talons, even this primal keen eye could tell something was amiss. Typically, such large scavengers would drift above the seemingly endless ocean of rolling green, until i...

AN: All references to the Knights of Solamnia are based off of the 2nd Edition AD&D "Dragonlance" sourcebook and Tales of Krynn anthologies, that unfortunately I don't have with me at the moment. So that includes racial and gender bias, that I recall. After all I am in the big Sandbox in the Middle East.

Both Ranma and Eilistraee knew they were there, just by whispers of ki that they felt. Almost unconsciously, their hands slipped together, as they followed the path. Rising from the ashes of the great cataclysm that ravaged the Purgadian peninsula, the Demons of the Darklands and their nascent civilization developed as it did through a combination of slavery and various forms of social and racial engineering, all instituted by the Orcheus-based Highbloods . Obsessed with heredity and looking for ways to maximize the utility of "lesser" Daeblus races along with importing creatures from the Brightlands (such as Minos and Parak Beasts) into Purgadia for their own gain, the crimson-skinned aristocrats had initially adopted the formidable Arcriers to work as their soldiers and bodyguards; while the conni...

Inside the tavern there was a warm air of merriment. In the glow of the small lanterns some 50 or 60 men and women, mainly human, enjoyed the reprise from the biting cold outside. Above the raucous of the patrons, a four man band struggled to be heard, playing a jolly piece with an assortment of string and wind instruments.Sweeping the large hall with his good eye, taking care to check every corner including the rooftop rafter, Azura satisfied himself that no-one was paying him any undue attention and softly clicked the heavy wooden door shut behind him.Keeping his long brown travelling cloak tightly pulled around him and his shoulders hun...
Knight-Brother Reinold smoothed his tabard with its yellow heretic's cross, and made what peace he could with his coming death. Here, near the end, he wondered at last, if his Order had been wrong, and the yellow cross they wore in irony and defiance was, in fact, the truth. For before this War which would now devour him, before he had become a Brother himself, there had been another great conflict, and Brother Knights had gone out from the land of Nortender to fight for the idea that had led the Church to turn its back on them. The simple idea that the Enemy had created nothing of this world, merely corrupted, and thus could not make some...

Once the store let up, most of the inhabitants on the plants had lost much of the technological superiority and had to fall back on more archaic means of survival. That was when the Tau came. DotN Chp 2 - An Old Acquaintance
Coming home across the ice Bridge was quite sentimental for Kiyo and Kumo. They had met lots of new kais and humanoids during this crossing and they looked forward to the reaction of the newcomers to this island in the north.
Alba and Mon, who had led the newcomers over the ice had announced their goodbyes to the crowd and walked off with their herd. Kiyo realised then that the pair looked very tired, she hoped they would find some piece now that they had returned home to Moyuko
The sky still looked very clear as the sun was setting, a painter’s canvas but blue, pink and gold colored the clouds A northern chill hit them, the breeze wafted over the scents from the nearby town.
Kiyo could smell smoked fish and warm baked goods as she sat atop her giant Kashi companion.
“Can you smell that Kumo?” she asked.
Kumo lifted his nose northwards. ‘Its smells like home”
Snowdrifted against the/, Kumo just shook the snow off. “Yep this is home”.
Kiyo laughed at that. Then she saw a dark figure

The heatwave that took over Shimora seemed to cause time to slow. It was during this time the Imperial city felt just as hot as the Sarnai desert and Atka could only imagine the conditions Sarnai was facing during this mysterious dry spell. He had heard rumors floating through the city about Meimei’s mysterious behavior and a prophecy that put many in a panick. It was because of this he had received a messenger eagle in the odd hours of the night, the Khan beckoning him to join her military ranks in Sarnai under the command of Kuan’Ti. Atka knew Kuan’Ti quite well from the war, he couldn’t quite say he liked the large bulky man but his ple...

Endsinger by Jay Kristoff: A review
It’s been a very long time since I read the Lotus Was trilogy (2015 was when I read Kinslayer). So much so that I had a reread of the previous books (while I do complain about series forgetting to recap things between books, even I know there is a limit!). At long last though I can finally bring this saga to a close.
Endsinger by Jay Kristoff follows from Kinslayer with Yukiko having re-joined the Kage rebellion after the failed attempt to rescue Aisha, but with success in bringing war between the clans. With Kin’s betrayal fresh in everyone’s minds, as he has returned to the Guild taking leader Daichi with him, Kaori is ready for revenge against the Guild. Yukiko, however, has found proof of another rebellion within the Guild and refuses to be blinded by anger anymore. Due to this, a split takes place with Kaori and much of the rebellion staying behind while Yukiko, Hana, Michi, Piotr, Yoshi, Akihito and the two thunder tigers, Buruu and Kaiah, leaving for the kitsune capital in the
Why did it have to rain? Now, of all times? So close to home when Ixhca decided it would be a fine time to let a storm slide in from across the Sea and dump it's waters upon the Alliance. At least her twin brothers were not playing, that made it a tad more bearable, but only just. She sighed bitterly."Is everything fine my lady?" the little server girl asked her. She'd managed to find a sanctuary of a roadside inn just as the storm was gathering and had quickly ducked in. Any sane person would have been delighted by it's warmth and shelter from the rain, but Keir did not find it pleasant. It was a delay, and after spending her time in the ...

It was the change of the seasons, and it seemed that it would be blessed with nature's grace yet again. Flahrune was beginning to fade like the light upon the tip of a candle, and the breeze of Dithdriyune was what brought forth its end. Burning shades of red and orange tinted the leaves and foliage with warmth, the fingers of the wind tousling through them like lithe digits that would weave in and out of the web that the limbs and branches created. The crisp breath of Avgrayee , the mistress of Breevune would be an omen of the impeding cold that would soon wash over the land, yet the warm of the flame that the Lord Flahrek bestow...

Fog filled the valley as Adic climbed the steep slope up the sides of Mount Karnda and his heavy breaths misted in the air. The early morning chill bit deep, his thin tunic offering no warmth, but he ignored it. In fact, if he was honest, he actually preferred the cold to the heat. Pausing to catch his breath, he looked back down the path, but could not see beyond a few paces. All around him the world was silent, and he took a moment to appreciate it. The caw of a lone crow brought his attention back to the task at hand and he set off again.Adic's destination was the shrine atop one of Mount Karnda's grassy spurs. The shrine was home...

DW: Origins is Not the Return to Form We Needed
Product provided by Koei-Tecmo Europe.
I’m a little late on this, I know, but in my defence, Koei-Tecmo put out like five releases in the span of one month. Luckily, I’m only interested in three of these, but I still had a lot on my plate between trying to play these games and doing various time-sensitive MK content. But finally, I’m able to come back to Dynasty Warriors Origins and say… this is not the return to form I hoped it would be.
There was a lot riding on this game after the disaster that was DW9. 9 was an open-world revamp that sacrificed much of the series’ identity and presentation for an unpolished trend-chaser that simply was not fun to play. I’m fairly certain its largely negative reception is why it lacked the usual series of spin-offs outside of an Empires release that dropped the open world, which would have been the only thing that could make an Empires title with 9’s core gameplay at all worth experiencing. DW9 was six years ago.

I: The Mage
In an age long forgotten
In the Fourth Realm Syl-No
There was a war that man had begotten
Such as the Xesh Sages will know.
'Tis when Death reined, foul and rotten
As the ancient stories go…Out of the ruins, a mage prince did rise
To end the war man had ignited
And bring about the evil's demise.
Against the enemies who, in carnage, delighted
The troops howled glorious battles cries.
Against the Mage's attempts, Syl-No was divided. For ten years the war raged on
Over reasons they did forsake
But in fear, all civility is gone,
Only able to count what's at stake.
The soldiers died one by one
Peace and life the gods did take. But in ...

Rain. An endless patter on the stone parapet. It was like the gods were pissing on them.General Torimo stroked his ragged black beard, looking down from the wall at the uneven rows of torches in the sludge that passed for a valley below. It was like looking into a stormcloud full of hornets, the intermittent torchlight flickering around the edges of steel stingers or playing in the eyes of a swarthy, rust colored face. They had quieted down finally, after nearly five hours of stamping and shouting Dag ramaj halak! Dag ramaj halak! "your blood for ours." The Laatis Guard had made to send messengers back to the camp at the first cry, int...

Chapter 3 Call of ZhonShe leaned against the railing of the ship looking over her shoulders at the vast expanse of the ocean stretching all around them. She paid no mind to the sounds of the sea men tending to the ship behind her instead losing herself to the nature around her. The ocean still held a mystery to her, unlike her sister Kirenna; she did not share any particular fondness to it. This voyage was long and the salty smell of the sea had constantly exasperated her sensitive nose. Even back at the castle, she would flinch when Kirenna returned from one of trips to the beach. The smell of the ocean clung tightly t...

Due to the girls desires to also chase them off this caused conflict between the two groups. Jaris couldn't help feeling a twinge of intimidation as he entered the building and usually avoided the place entirely unless he had no other choice. The cold stone walls rose like cliffs around him as he approached, and when the elevator hummed upwards through the tunnel his mane bristled as the day's dim light was shut out abruptly. The office he found himself in was lavishly decorated; a rich crimson carpet was soft under his claws and bookshelves lined the walls, walls which were so broad and wide that it seemed almost a hall rather than an office. The ceiling rose so high a Drakan could have spread its wings and would still have room ...
