BB'B Steampunk for Rainmeter

By Mordasius
280 Favourites
The Big, Bold and Brassy (BB&B) collection of skins was inspired by IllustratorG's Steampunk Construction Kits. The collection is intended for use on widescreen resolutions (1440x900, 1920x1080, etc.). The emphasis is on bars and dials for visualising information with details given in tooltips and/or pop-ups (mouse-over and/or left-click). What you get in this versions is:

- Analogue clock (left-click to change the frame).  There is an alternative steam clock here.
- Calendar with day / date
- RAM and SWAP memory usage
- Overall CPU usage with individual bars for cores 1-4.
- Network activity with ping return time. Left-click for histograms showing upload and download speeds. The ping return indicator uses the ColorChanger script by smurfier
- Wifi signal strength and visable networks.
- Animated volume control with auto-retract.
- HHD used space indicators for 4 drives.
- Weather skin with thermometers, barometer, wind direction indicator and 72-hour forecast from the Weather Channel
- uTorrent tracker using Lua script adapted from LuaTorrent 3.1 by jsmorley
- RSS/Atom feedreader built around Kaelri's Reader.lua script. Feed items are sorted by date/time and anything less than an hour old is bulleted. The neat little selector animation uses Kaelri's Universal Transitions script.
- The Music Player uses Poiru's NowPlaying plugin and works with a variety of media players (e.g. Windows Media Player, AIMP, Foobar2000, iTunes, MediaMonkey, MusicBee, Media Player, Classic, WinAmp, Spotify, TTplayer, VLC, Zune, etc.).
- Skin Launcher for the FeedReader, Music Player, uTorrent and Weather skins which you might not want to have on your desktop all of the time.

If you have any suggestions or questions concerning the skins, you'll get a quicker response if you contact me on the Rainmeter forums .

UPDATE 12-Dec-12: Added variant to display activity on CPU cores 5-8. It can be found as a variant of the Background skin (Background-8core.ini).
UPDATE 17-Jan-13: Replaced the silly little thermometers with a circular temperature gauge.
UPDATE 18-Jan-13: Fixed an error in the uTorrent skin that prevented it working properly on some machines.
UPDATE 30-Jan-14: Posted a VLC media player skin to go with this collection.
UPDATE 14-May-16: Updated the Weather skin to read revised feed from
UPDATE 5th April 2020 - Updated the weather skin to incorporate the patch made by SilverAzide.

Thanks for this SilverAzide.  I have incorporated your patch in latest version of the collection which can be downloaded above..

The weather is not working. Will you be updating soon?

Unfortunately the service has been depreciated.  Alternatives have been found but I haven't found time to apply them to my skins yet.  It's there on my todo list but I have to finish a few more trader quests on Escape From Tarkov first :-)

Thanks! Your Themes are GREAT!

The drive widget is terrific, but please NOTE that of several rainmeter skin packs I have, yours is the only one where the screen positions are not preserved after reboot or reload. You might check on why that might be. I do have a dual monitor system so that might be a factor. Also, I find many steampunk skins, including yours, to be too dark for easy viewing and hard on the eyes. Of course, anybody can open the PNG files in the resources folder and change that, which I often do. Thanks!

There are three of the component skins that automatically align themselves with the background image when loaded.  To stop this you can right-click and edit CPU-RAM-SWAP.ini, SkinLauncher.ini and Wifi.ini.  At the top of each ini file there is a line like OnRefreshAction=!Move (#ConfigAX#+214) (#ConfigAY#+84).  Either delete this line or put a semi-colon at the front of it to comment it out.  This should stop the skins reverting to other positions every time you load them.

As to the dark images it is probably because some Steampunk aficionados tend toward the dark side and are more at home with dark-grimey-sooty desktops :-)

You ARE a gentleman as well as a genius, you know that! I'll get on that answer shortly. Guess I'll mention one other item on your most excellent weather widget. I can easily grasp how to change the temp to F instead of C, but the needle is then stuck on max. I can adjust the needle ratio on the barometer to match inches vs mb, but failed to find a way to adjust the temp gauge needle so it matches an F max/min instead of C. I am very grateful for you're answers to this point and don't want to bother you much, but thanks. Oh, and I photoshopped the images so that they were much more readable for an old man. Ha, I see there was an earthquake a few miles from here today! I love the steampunk stuff, did some nice images myself a few years ago. Thanks again!

Great, but the weather is for Oslo, how do I change it to another location. THANKS!

You need to click on the 'settings' icon on the far right of the launcher panel (it is just above the wifi tube at the bottom of the tank thing on the right).  This will open ....\Rainmeter\Skins\BB&B\Resources\Configs\  Get your weather code by going to http;// and typing your location in the Search box.  Then look in the address bar in the top-left to find a number code like NOXX0029.  That is the WeatherCode you should  enter as weather code in (eg. WeatherCode=NOXX0029)

Never mind, get the code from the URL for Weather Channel, replace #LocationCode" in ini file.

This is awesome ! But how can I make the utorrent show 'download' ? Mine is only showing 'upload' Help is much appreciated.

It is working on my system so I can't help trouble-shoot your difficulty.    Please check the uTorrent-setup(x) images in the ..Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\BB&B\@ Resources\Configs folder for help with setting up uTorrent and then double check to be sure that the values in to match your settings.

Hi, Mordasius!

I'm using this skin pack, and it's great! But I have a problem. The weather skin has been working perfectly, until today. Now, it isn't displaying neither the actual weather, nor the 3 day forecast. I thought, that I have spoiled the code somewhere, but then, I have perceived, that the weather skins don't work in other paks too (for example in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R pack). I think, the problem is with the server. Could you help me to fix this "malfunction"?

Sorry, because I have disturbed you... The problem has been solved automatically.

I am late to the show here, having just discovered Rainmeter and this wonderful pack

Thank you for the hard work and awesome skin

I have been able to edit my location in the weather skin, but is there a way to change the measurement from millibars to inches>

Just downloaded this pack today, and i am very pleased with it overall, but I can't seem to sync my Utorrent to the widget.  Could you explain the process?
Mordasius's avatar
Have a look at the two uTorrent-setup(x) images in the...\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\BB&B\'@'Resources\Configs folder for help with setting up uTorrent and then change the values in ....\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\BB&B\@''Resources\Configs\ to match your settings.

You can access the file by clicking on the settings button in the far-right of the launcher skin.

Hi, these are just awesome... I was wondering if you had considered making a vector pack out of these to use on websites? I am trying to find resources for our rpg community site and there is very little out there in this style.. I did send you a message about it, not sure if you have seen it yet.. Anyway.. 10/10 for this its awesome..
