Singing in Dead Languages by MoonsongWolf Singing in Dead Languages by MoonsongWolf
An art trade with *HeiXieXun of her character Kuutamo. The theme and setting was, by request, based on the song Lautturi by PMMP. "Lautturi" is Finnish for "ferryman." The title is a line from the English song translation.

I was surprised that this one came together so readily. Usually I spend (waste?) hours fighting with these things to make them look consistent instead of piece-meal. This was a pleasant (and much needed) surprise.

It was a trade for someone who asked for an image of a wolf based on a specific song. I thought that the song sounded a bit lonely or mournful, so that's how the picture ended up, too! :)

the manipulation looks so seamless. it is hard to believe that it wasn't done this way from the start

Thanks! I spend a lot of extra time repainting them or painting in transition areas to help them blend together better. It's time-consuming, but usually worth the extra effort. :)

This is a photo manipulation, meaning I had photos as a base to work on. I repaint parts of my photo manips to make them look more like traditional paintings. If you look at the artist comments, I link all of the photos that I used, so you can see what they originally looked like. :)

I repaint my photo manips completely. It's not a filter or anything, it's all done by hand. If you would like to read a detailed description about how I do manips, I have a two-part journal entry about it, starting here: [link] :)

I'm not sure how much of a photomanip it is if you do it all over by hand X3

I'm still using the photos for the base, but it is really more like a matte painting than what you might normally call a "photo manip." However, I still classify them as photo manip because it is done using the photos themselves, not just referencing... and I don't want to have to explain that the process involves using photos every time I submit one of these! So it's a big time saver for me, and causes less confusion and/or possible misunderstandings, if I just call it a manip.
