When Pan first saw it, his reaction had immediately been: "Oh, Lunch time!" His mentor Rowan at the time had however quickly corrected him with a swift strike of his paw on the young tom's head. Pan had vaguely wondered what he had ever done to recieve such abuse. "We never eat companions." had been instated as the rule, though Pan was not sure how to tell the difference if there wasn't a cat to own them nearby. He could keep wondering, 'cause now he was alone with the bird, the 'simple' and 'short' instructions of "watch their behavior, report to me" and "Oh, don't forget to feed him" having been left behind by his ever helpful mentor.
Pan grumbled under his breath, eyeing the bird suspiciously. It's black beady eyes followed him as he moved, creeping Pan out a little. It was a rather big bird too, though he gauged his dad's owl to be bigger. He huffed. Why couldn't Rowan have left him with a cool animal like that? What was this anyway? A magpie, he vagually remembered Rowan telling him so.
Weren't they like...smart? Oh, and thieves too! He gave the magpie another glance before nodding. Alright, he could do this! He grinned at the bird, a dangereous gleam passing his eyes. "Alright, birdie, lets see how fast I can tame you."
Disaster soon followed.
When Rowan came back in, the den was a mess. Provisions lay everywhere, a bunch of escaped companions feasting on what laid freely for them to take. One of the mouse was getting chased by a burrowing owl, much to the tamers horror. Amids of it all ran one orange pelted tom, desperately trying to keep the animals from eating everything and each other. "What?!"
At hearing his teacher's voice Pan tripped and fell, face first unto the ground. "Ouch." He rubbed his nose painfully, before looking up at his looming mentor who had a less than pleased look on his face. Pan grinned sheepishly, nervously beating his tail against the ground as he looked up. Time to start explaining. "I-I... The magpie! He wouldn't listen and then he suddenly stole one of my stones and I tried to get him to give it back, but he made me run into the provisions and they were knocked over and he tried to eat, but I wouldn't let him. I chased him, but he flew against one of the others and suddenly they were all about and plundering. And he just sat there and I swear he was laughing. It's all is his fault! That bird is EVIL!" His rushed explanation finally ended and he looked at Rowan for understanding. That moment the devilish magpie however choose to hop onto his head, cocking his head in the most innocent of fashions. Oh, that evil thing, he would- Rowan didn't seem to be impressed. "Extra hours for the next three weeks, got it?"
Pan nodded.
"Alright, now start cleaning and get those animals back in line." Pan dropped his head to the ground in defeat. "Aye, sir." The magpie chirped happily.
Pure evil.
