Summary:
Panthaleon is up to one of his tricks. Sadly for him a certain leader is onto him
Panthaleon smiled mischievously as he crept into the medic's den. A wounded cat had been brought in and they were buzzy tending to him now, giving Pan the perfect opportunity to pull a prank on a certain she-cat. Who? Well, a healer going by the name of Glendower. Lately she had been taking up a lot of his father's free time, something Pan did not like. What the heck was so special about her anyway?
He snuck further into the den, making sure he was not seen. He had tried pulling pranks before, but he had always been caught. But not today, he grinned, putting the frog he had been carrying near the stuff the healer always worked with. He wished he could see her face when the animal would suddenly jump away. Maybe if he stayed near he could hear her yell or something. Hmmm.
Iorek had been sleeping in his nest, resting a little after giving Joann the orders for that day when he heard the sound of soft paws on the ground. Opening one icy-blue eye, the Leader slowly lifted his head and looked over his shoulder just in time to see a ginger tabby blur by. Deciding to stay at bay, the dark tabby tom watched as he saw the young Rookie come into clear sight; of course. Panthaleon. One of his adopted son's, yet he hadn't seen him properly for a while. However, why was he hearing something let out a high-pitched croaking? Narrowing his eyes, Iorek saw that Panthaleon was indeed placing a frog among Glendower's herbs. Was this a nasty trick or something? Either way, he had seen enough. Getting out of his nest, Iorek instantly walked up to Panthaleon and cleared his throat. "What" he began rather dryly, "do you think you are doing Panthaleon?"
Panthaleon jumped at the sudden voice and quickly turned. His eyes grew wide when he recognized the cat before him and he smiled in what he hoped to be an innocent fashion. "Euhm, h-hi, dad."
He glanced around as if seeking a way to escape and took a little step back. "Euhm, I thought I saw something creep in here and decided to check it out. Found nothing yet." He took another step backwards and accidentally hit the herbs from before. The frog croaked loudly and jumped. Ah, chuck.
"Ooh, there it is!" Pan exclaimed, trying to look surprised. He wasn't really succeeding.
Iorek stared at his son the whole time, clearly unconvinced with this lie. Already he was thinking of the punishment the young Rookie would be getting from him now, and that surely was what he started to do. "Do you take me as a fool, my son? I know you despite being extremely tied up in my responsibilities still" he pointed u=out bluntly, his tail sweeping across the ground gracefully. "As punishment, I want you to clean out my den with me; it's about time I returned to it despite being in here for three if not more days" he added on, blinking only once. Oh how he absolutely enjoyed this punishment; the camp always needed something done with it in order to keep it tidy and clean. And with all this snow brought upon the North as of late, the tom thought that the camp needed a little clearing out. Without a word and a twitch of his ear, the tom walked out of the den and started towards his own den, expecting Panthaleon to follow suite.
Panthaleon, seeing that his plan to act innocent was not working, hung his head in defeat. "No, dad." He mumbled in reply of thinking he was stupid. His ears dropped as he listened to his dad's punishment, not liking what he what he was hearing one bit. Cleaning? Ugh!
But instead of complaining, he decided to swallow his medicine and answered with a meek. "Yes, Dad." before following the larger Tom outside of the den. He'd probably make it worse if he'd try to get out of it. He shuddered imagining having to clean the medics den also. No, he really wouldn't want that. Behind him he heard a little croak as he exited. 'Stupid frog.'
Upon arriving near his den, Iorek turned around to look at his son again, his expression unreadable. For a moment he remained silent, just staring at Panthaleon as if he were contemplating on what to do as a starting position for cleaning his den. Then, with a huff, the tom glanced back at his den's opening and cleared his throat. "For starters, you'll help me clear the entrance of my den. Then, after that is done, we shall bat away at the side of the outside until it is level with each other perfectly" he explained, turning around and staring at his den. "Due to you having Burst and being a Light Elemental, you are not allowed to use your element; even I'll not use my element to make things fair. Now start, brat" he added on, a slight hinting tone of mischief showing itself when he called the ginger Rookie a brat. Soon afterwards, the Leader began to unsheathe his claws and dig away at the snow blocking half of his den's entrance.
Panthaleon stilled when the larger tom turned and stared at him. The orange cat did his best not to blink, while on the inside he was having a freak-out about his father's unreadable gaze. Oh, no, he is thinking about making me clean the medics den, isn't he? Does he read thoughts? He isn't psychic, isn't he? With him you never know... He just stared back eyes wide.
He almost sighed in relief when the older cat proceeded with explaining his 'punishment'. Well, until he heard he wouldn't be able to use his ability. He closed his eye for a moment as if the list of things he'd be doing alone already pained him.
When Iorek finished, he settled himself next to him and started digging reluctantly, muttering what sounded suspiciously like 'not a brat' under his breath.
Iorek twitched his ear towards his son's direction, hearing the mutter a little despite the sound of claws scraping against snow and ice. Instantly the dark tabby turned to the Rookie with a cold look in his icy-blue eyes. "What was that, brat?" he sternly responded, and remained in that expression for a long while. Then, the Leader went back to his work, remaining silent with his ears still perked up to listen in for a response from Panthaleon. Of course, Iorek was a rather patient tom, and he would gladly wait until he got an answer from the young Tamer Rookie. "Despite this being a punishment, consider this another way too - I could have easily sent you to Elders den, but decided this was a perfect opportunity to spend time with you again" he added on unexpectedly, knowing all too well that Panthaleon loved attention.
Panthaleon straightened when Iorek suddenly addressed him. Oops, had he said that out loud. Increasing his digging, he mumbled a quick "nothing, dad", hoping it would appease his father and get rid of the cold stare he was getting. He didn't even have to look up to feel the older toms eyes.
He relaxed when Iorek decided to start digging again, silently continue his work. He had expected for it to remain like that, only the noise of their labor filling the den, but was pleasantly surprised when his father spoke again. The orange tom didn't answer, but a small smile played around his lips and he dug with just a little bit more enthusiasm. It was nice that his father wanted to spent some time with him after all - be it in a terribly annoying way.
Iorek just snorted in some form of approval before continuing with his work, knowing all too well that Panthaleon did say something. Nonetheless, the Leader decided it best to just leave it and get along with his work. After a while of silence, the dark tabby tom eventually cleared a path to his den; well, one path anyway. Entering the den from the fresh tunnel, Iorek turned around to look at his son's progress. Deeming it enough for now, the Leader cleared his throat and spoke. "That's enough for now, Panthaleon. Now, as for the next part of your punishment, you shall pick down the icicles on top of the entrance. After that, you shall return to digging out the entrance" he explained in a raspy voice, still holding that stern expression on his face as he looked at the young ginger Rookie. He wasn't letting the young tom off so easy, after all; especially for that nasty attempted prank on Glendower! He knew as much as Akarui did that his beloved hated creatures such as frogs. Thankfully it wasn't a snake was all that ran through Iorek's head, remembering that one time he heard of the Healer's fear of them.
Panthaleon grunted some form of response, before thinking better of it and saying a quick "Yes, Dad". He went towards the entrance, eyeing the icicles hanging down from it. It were quite a few. Deciding that moping about it was not gonna do him anything good, he figured he could turn this into the game. He jumped at the icy peaks, swatting them and as they fell down, he tried to catch them in his mouth. It didn't go to well, so in playfulness, he jumped a fallen one. When he was done he, opened his mouth to drop it to the ground, but... It wouldn't bunch. He was horrified to find that the icicle was stuck to his tongue. Oh, no...
For a while Iorek thought things were going quite well; each time the tabby tom saw the icicles fall down one by one, then by a few on some occasions, Panthaleon seemed to get more and more amused. Good. Let him enjoy himself for a while, despite this supposing to be a punishment. Turning around, Iorek was about to tend to his nest, when all of a sudden, the sound of falling icicles stopped. He done it already? Turning around, the tabby tom was instantly met with the comical image of his son with none other than a pure icicle in in his mouth, presumably stuck to his tongue. Sighing and shaking his head, the Ice Elemental approached the ginger Rookie and sat down next to him. "All the things I do for you" he groaned bluntly, before inspecting the icicle. Of course, he had no such spells useful in removing the chunk of ice, nor had he been taught how to deal with them. After all, his mother told him not to like at any ice, to which he himself obeyed obediently. Thinking for a moment, the dark tabby tom began to look into Pan's eyes and spoke. "Can you please try to bite through it? It might give me an idea of how solid and thick it is" he instructed in a rasp, still staring at the icicle.
Panthaleon was trying to get the stupid tongue out of his mouth when he suddenly got the feeling of being watched. Turning his head to the side, he quickly sat up straight as he saw his father had noticed him. He tried to not look stupid or well as much as possible with an icecle in his mouth. He felt both guilty and embarrassed two feeling he did not deal well with. Swatting his tail nervously he tried opening his mouth a bit for his dad to inspect. The thing was cold and unpleasant in his mouth, so he hoped the elder tom could fix it. Pan looked a bit worried when he instructed him to bite down. He tried gulping and clamped down his teeth. The ice was not only hard, but the cold also seemed to sear straight through his canines. With a yelp he quickly stopped biting.
Iorek frowned a little as he watched Pan attempt what he had advised, yet the cold seemed to have stung his teeth. Sighing and placing a paw onto his face, the Leader leaned in closer to inspect the damage. The icicle itself seemed too hard to chomp down on - especially for Rookies Panthaleon's age! Clicking his tongue, Iorek looked up and narrowed his eyes a little. "Panthaleon... I'm afraid I may need to go see a Fire Elemental about this... or worse, your mother. I'm pretty sure Light Elementals can melt ice as well, and what better cat to do that then Clementine" he responded in a cynical matter, knowing all too well where this situation was going. After all, his own element could do nothing to help since the icicle itself was made up of ice - unless there was a spell that could convert ice to snow and he had it, then there was no point in him using his powers to help his son any time soon.
Panthaleon's eyes went wide. A fire elemental?! He swatted his tail more quickly, feeling a little faint. He didn't want his mouth burned. And if mom saw him like this, oh man, he really didn't want her to look stern or something like that. And he'd have to go outside. What if someone saw this? Not good, not good. If he could pick between light and fire though, he wanted a light elemental to help. He liked his element, he knew you could heal too, if you acquired the ability and... Wait, a minute. "I an a ight e'e'enta." He tried saying, pawing his own chest. Maybe he could fix this himself. He only hoped his dad understood.
Iorek was about to leave the den to get the closest Light or Fire Elemental when he heard the muffled voice of Panthaleon from behind him. Turning to look back at the ginger Tamer Rookie, the dark tabby tom raised an eyebrow. "What was that?" he mewed back, walking towards his son once again as he studied him more carefully. That was when the Leader remembered that Pan himself had inherited Clementine's elemental power of Light. Sitting down, Iorek watched Pan calmly. "What spell do you have, Pan? I hope for your sake it's a useful one of course considering the spells that come with an ability stone all vary..." he meowed, tone raspy but thoughtful. If Pan had something like Scratch or Blinding Light then perhaps he wouldn't need to get Clementine or someone like Akarui to solve this predicament after all.
With a certain relief, Pan watched as his father came back. Good, no embarrassing situations for him just yet... well not in front anyone aside the leader at least.
He thought as his father asked about his spell. " 'Urst," he replied. To be honest, he didn't use it all that much, light wasn't exactly the best element a tamer could have, then again what element was aside psychic?
Patience never one of his virtues, the ginger rookie decided he wasn't gonna sit around, but just try. Closing his eyes to concentrate, he felt the power - such a weird feeling - gather in the back of his throat and only just in time he remembered to turn his head away from his dad and towards the floor to avoid getting him hit by the burst.
Much to his delight it worked and the icicle released itself from his mouth. The euphoria was short lived however when the pain of getting something ripped of your tongue registered. He pressed his snout to the ground of the den to cope. "Oouch!"
Thankfully, Iorek could understand clearly the single word that came out from his son's voice despite it being muffled. The moment the muffled attempt at say "Burst" made its way into the dark tabby's ears, the Leader sighed in relief; burst allowed a cat to shoot energy from either their paws... or their mouth. Therefore, this spell was perfect to sort out this ordeal once and for all! Knowing that he would not need to go get Clementine or Akarui after all, the Leader sat down a few tail-lengths away from Pan so he wouldn't be in the way of exploding ice. As an added safety precaution for the ginger tabby's part, the tom watched as the Tamer Rookie lowered his head to the ground just as his eyes glowed a bright yellow alongside the stone on his front leg; a sign that the spell was activated. Sure enough, the icicle burst into tiny fragments from the energy force coming out from the younger tom's mouth, thus allowing his mouth to be free. Though seconds later... Walking over to Pan with a stern look, Iorek shook his head. "Now you know next time not to go placing your tongue on pure ice!" he muttered sarcastically with a roll of his eyes. Leaning down to meet the Rookie's gaze; however, concern entered the Northern King's expression. "I suggest you go see Glendower, Nicodemus, or your sister about your tongue though - I may know a thing or two about healing, but I have not yet learned how to deal with treating the tongue of a brat who couldn't keep his tongue to himself" he mewed in a low, blunt voice, though at the end of his sentence the tom let out a small chuckle to show he was joking.
Pan had the decency to look guilty, venturing a sheepish smile at his father, tongue hanging half out of his mouth. It felt as if someone had racked their claws over it, but was slowly becoming numb. "Ehe, alright, Dad." He shuffled a bit on his paws as he stood up, head bowed. "I'll do so," he said, glancing up at Iorek. "Ehm, right away."
He turned around, running outside the den, yelling as he went: “I guess you can ask someone else to help you clean the rest, huh? I bet Kyn will love to!" Before making sure, he disappeared as fast as possible, less his father called him back.
He grinned, wondering if the older tom would really get his brother to help. The thought had him chuckling and he bent down to take a mouth full of snow. Swallowing the icy substance was less than pleasant, but it did wonders for his tongue. He was so not seeing a healer over this, especially Glendower. He shook his head, getting up. Now... Maybe it was time to go back and practice his skills a bit... The tamer den was rather nice a change from all this cold snow.
The moment the tom spoke Iorek narrowed his eyes in suspicion; there was something off by the way Pan seemed to take this news. Therefore, he wasn't exactly surprised the moment the ginger tom ran out of the den and mentioned something about Kyn helping him continue his den clean out when really, this was Pan's punishment. With a disapproving and annoyed roll of his eyes, the tabby tom walked out of the den instantly. There he scanned the snowy clearing, spotting a few familiar faces, but none comparing the fiery tabby tom that he called his own son. Eventually, Iorek did spot Pan and without even a word, the frowning Leader walked slowly towards the tom from behind, trying his best to not make so much noise despite the soft crunching of snow beneath his feet. Although the time he got close enough to his son, the dark tabby tom grabbed Pan by the scruff and (ignoring the age and size difference from the last time he carried him as a kit), Iorek instantly dragged him back to the den. Of course a few cats did stare at the sight - not that he cared - and the moment he came close to the den's entrance. the tom let go of the scruff and glared at Pan. "You're not getting off with your punishment that easy! You either got to the Healers, or stay. Either way, you're still clearing this den out; although because of that sneaky display, you shall now be cleaning it without my help, brat" he growled, clearly unamused with the Tamer Rookie.
Taking some more snow in his mouth while trying to avoid brain freeze Pan didn't notice the presence coming up from behind. Well, until he got grabbed by his scruff that is.
First he was surprised and kicked the air a bit. "Hey!" But then he recognized his father and quickly stopped. Damn, he was done with. He tried -and failed- not being embarrassed as other cats stared at him. This was so humiliating being dragged off like a kitten. Well, he guessed he should be happy it was so cold that many cats stayed inside.
He lowered his head immediately after being dropped back into the den, glancing up to the older tom like a kicked puppy and waiting to be scolded. When Iorek offered him somewhat of a choice, a tentative half smile appeared on his lips and half-jokingly, half serious he asked quietly: “Does Olive count?"

Ah, this was really fun to read! Nice try, Pan-- but I'd really like a RP between Pan and Glendower sometime!
