1.5 What do you do every day? How are you an asset to your herd?

Amber needed to defend her choices in life on many occasions. Her resistance to not wanting to be married off, her choice of name, wanting to be addressed as Amber rather than Amberley as her uncle usually insisted. What she got most trouble for however was her choice of rank. She had been beyond herself when Hira had offered her this opportunity, had grabbed it in an instance. Her family did not share her happiness nor did the herd. Being a Valkyrie was though. Though work. She needed to train, often ending up with cuts and bruises. Had needed to learn to read. The work was intense, but she didn’t mind that. It was rewarding, fulfilling and she felt like it was exactly what she always had meant to do. The hardest part was the resistance it faced. It was something new, something Hira had installed, something that was not generally accepted. And that’s what bothered Amber the most. What made her blood boil. What made her hurt inside. The looks of disdain they were sent. The names they were called. How her uncle tried to change her mind on every occasion he got. How even her mother pleaded from time to time to just retire and become a farmer as so many in her family were. It was the part of her job that Amber hated with every fiber of her being. It made her so tired, not physically like training, but emotionally and mentally. On some days she just wanted to lie down and sleep it all off. Yet even if it was what put so much strain on the mare every day, it was also what gave her purpose. It gave her a drive. It was something to measure herself against and more importantly to measure her achievements against. It reminded her of what she had to do, of her goals of changing the herd. Because after all, what was better to see how far she stood in changing the minds of others than the opinions of those around her? Pain she turned into power.
