they weren't harmed, but now that you've touched them their mother won't care for them any more, they've got your scent on them, so the mother will abandon them now :X

They weren't harmed because they were already dead. The birds built a nest in our dryer vent. If we hadn't taken it out, the house could have burned down. They were already roasted from the dryer anyway. I'm not saying I was happy about the situation.

When I was a kid, my granny had a huge hatching machine (ok, so maybe it wasn't sooo huge, but it was big when I was little), where we would put eggs from the hens and ducks, in there they would get warmth, alike the one from its parents. Every once in a while one had to open it and turn the eggs a little, or the chickens would get stuck onto the wall of the egg.
And then, one day, there would be a lot of fluffy little chickens and ducklings in there <3 it was like waiting for christmas, only better :)
That's a hatching machine.
I've seen modern too, we have one somewhere, but as I've noticed, they aren't at all as good as the old ones o.O
