Out of the 15 semi-finalists,         three winners have been chosen for the EVE Online "Create A Starship" contest. Before we show off the         ships that made the top 3, deviantART wants to give a big thank-you to the members of the EVE Online         creative team who picked the intergalactic winners, as well as everyone who participated. CCP has its         own special message about the winners:

"CCP would like to thank deviantART, the dA community, and the EVE community for participating         in this contest. A very cool EVE ship won out of over 3,800 entries. The sheer number of entries was         huge, and the images went from mildly insane to stunningly beautiful. We understand that there is a         huge outcry from the EVE community about the semi-finalist round suggestion, but dA ran a good contest.         Ultimately they had to judge a subjective thing, art, which is never easy. What came out of that process         was a really cool Minmatar ship to be added to the EVE universe."

So, check the out-of-this-world winners below and catch a glimpse of the deviants who scored tons of stellar         loot – including iPads, Wacom tablets, and deviantWear! Pay special attention to the first place ship, because         you'll be able to fly it around the EVE Online universe very soon!

ok winner 2 i agree on all states but i don't really like the 1st place ship and the 3rd place design is just horrible compared to some of the amazing designs which were entered.
Also why did you pick 2 minmitar type ships to win? Couldn't you have separated it into 1 winner for each of the 4 races? would of been much better.

Ah and.. Might this first place be a especially smart way to "announce" the introduction of t3 BS? :D

aye. the after results were not though. alot of people were mad. not just becuse they lost. but because they lost to crappy art work. ( not saying mine is any better ) but only 3 mayby 4 had any right to get to the 15 semi finalists in my eyes. and the 3 i woulda picked won.

Sigh... so another matari rust bucket joins my target practice list... and we will still see CONCORD's poor excuse for a frame with guns everywhere... how sad. Gatekeeper was a Far better design to go with.

No offense to the winners, your designs are just not my style.

And now the whole Eve online community hates us.

I didn't participated, and I don't play the game, so I don't know what happened.

There are idiots in every community and they are usually heard above the sanity of the rest of us. With that being said, here's the reason for the uproar.

[1] The winner will have their ship included in Eve-Online so the winning entry must naturally fit within the universe right?
[2] Out of the 15 semi-finalists only 3 ships actually looked like they could fit in EvE universe and one of them was for a faction that players weren't allowed to play as.
[3] The LABattleCruiser was included in the 15 finalists [link] to begin with. Only after the judges noticed a watermark on the work did they remove the ship from the contest and substituted the Tornado [link] . [hence the rally cry "LABC > Tornado = Broken Contest"]
[4] Finally, there were numerous shortcommings by the judges in part for not supplying feedback as to whether ship designs were accepted/rejected. Along with this, most of the Trial codes for qualifying entries didn't get out till long after the contest ended.

Ps. The EvE community found it amusing that a ship, not even listed in the finalists to begin with, won the competition. Hope this sums it up for ya :3

Nah, they just hate the judges. Mind you, the trolls in the Eve community hate you. They hate everybody. They even hate themselves. Just as a matter of principle.

Just for all of you who didn't know already, EvE-Online is going to host their own competition to compensate for the fail job DA did. The date for the competetion will be announced later

How did dA do a fail job? They were just hosting the competition. The community provided the entries.
