In Recognition of Exemplary Membership and an Outstanding Spirit of helpfulness and mentoring within the DeviantArt community
I'm retired now, but I've worked as a professional artist since 1978. I spent most of those in the children's clothing industry. You can read more about things I've done in the fashion industry in a recent article I wrote for projecteducate - Art in the Children's Apparel Industry I've always been into art. My Aunt (my Dad's sister) was an art teacher, and one of his aunts was an artist for a greeting card company.
As for my own interests, I've done the artwork for several rock bands that I've played in over the years, or done artwork for other peoples' bands. I recent years, I played with all kinds of subject matter and themes.
I've been greatly influenced by the works of H.P. Lovecraft and other forms of horror art, sometimes adding a bit of humor to them. I could go on and on about my favorite artists and musicians.
I somehow discovered DeviantArt through the Planet Express Employee Lounge, aka PEEL. A Futurama fan website. This seemed like a good place to start submitting Futurama Fan Art. The more I learned about the place, the more interesting it became. I discovered so much diversity, talent, and inspiration, it seemed like a good place to stay. Suffice it to say, I'm still here. And doing more than just fan art, although I still do a lot of that. I can do whatever comes into my head, and there's an audience for it.If I can help people out or inspire them a little bit here and there, along the way, I do.
Faving and running – guilty but only because there's so much here. Remember, when it comes to art, do what you do and never stop!
Deviousness Award Winner
CapnDeek373, aka Deeks, may have joined DeviantArt 13 years ago to share his Futurama Fan Art, but since then, he's not only given us a glimpse into his eclectic horror art, but he's become one of the most supportive members of our community.
It's not surprising to find a helpful or supportive comment from Deeks wherever you go, as he's made – no exaggeration – over 80,000 of them in his time, which is impressive to say the least. He may be retired from the professional art industry now, but he's always willing to lend a hand and share his experiences with up-and-coming artists, notably through Groups like projecteducate.
It's because of this devotion and willingness to inspire his fellow deviants that we are elated to award Deviousness for November 2017 to CapnDeek373.
CapnDeek373 has been a familiar, friendly face on DA for 13 years. His quirky approach to fan art and 'miniature' cityscape photography is as recognizable as his dedication to supporting other artists through regular journal features, groups he admins (from steampunk horror to Futurama to cats!) and so many comments.”
When I signed up to DeviantArt almost 10 years ago I started to follow Deek. His art is a pleasure to see as I never know what he will come up with next The word whimsical come to mind. Deek creates his art, I mean he puts objects together in an artistic way and photographs them. He has a very vivid imagination and I have never heard him say that he was in a slump. Another great thing is the fact that he loves to communicate If you have a question or an opinion he takes the time to discuss it with you. I'm proud to have him as a friend and just as pleased to be following his magnificent gallery. You really need to dig through his page and see what I mean. Did I mention he is in a band!”
Cap'n Deek is a highly skilled skipper who always likes to take his ship well inside of uncharted territory. He has a steady hand at the helm as he guides his passengers on a most interesting and fun-filled ride where they get to see the world through his eyes, always on the lookout for those critters with tentacles and great big googly eyeballs. Another thing he does very well is make the big things in life appear to be quite small, bringing the viewer to grips with a stark reality in which all is not as it first seems to be. One must look deep into the Good Skipper's art to discover the tiny tidbits of abnormality strewn about, just enough to make a person think deep. Cap'n Deek deserves this hard-earned title, for he has always been diligent in featuring other deviants in his many journals. Each one centers around a given theme, and after perusing a few of these, one comes to know him quite well. I highly recommend a visit to his gallery. You will come away with a point of view you never thought possible. Truly, one of the reasons deviants stay deviant. We all want to take a voyage on Skipper's Boat as it courageously sails off into the Great Unknown beyond our wildest imagination.”
I ♥ CapnDeek373”
CapnDeek373 is a very active and supporting person, either by commenting or featuring. He's eclectic, with his own art and that he collects, I think it comes from his formation in design - just because inspiration can come from all forms of art and can present itself in any form.
I love his humour and energy, his designs are great and he is very productive - his gallery deserves a visit and you surely will have fun with him on Halloween. Congratulations Deek, you really deserve this award!”
I met Deek for the very first time in the chatroom and in the projecteducate group, then I decided to watch him because I liked his way of supporting and helping other artists. Always you'll find a kind comment from him on other artists artworks and at the same time, he is grateful when others appreciate his work. He has a complete gallery thanks to the variety of works he has been sharing on DA with us. Deek, I'm very happy to be part of your Deviousness Award Announcement, you really deserve it, for being a great person, artist, and inspiration. Enjoy it and keep being awesome!”
CapnDeek373 has an inspiring background that I had the pleasure to learn more about as I worked with him on content for projecteducate, a group which he has always been quite supportive of. I am grateful and impressed with his continued support for the community and believe him to be an outstanding source of inspiration, in addition to just being a generally awesome person.”
CapnDeek373 has become a good friend over my years on DeviantArt. He's very supportive of the community in addition to being a creative individual. Deviousness couldn't go to someone better this month. It is well-deserved!"
