My name is Monique, and I am a photographer and writer born in the Netherlands, but I have since lived in several countries. I started out with photography when I was five years old, my grandfather gave me a brand new Polaroid camera on my birthday, which is where it all started for me. When I first joined DA, I had no idea what to expect, but I was given a warm welcome. If we fast forward fourteen years, we arrive at today. Over the years, I have come to love the community here, and have made it my priority over sharing my own art.
Giving back to the community has been the best part of my time here, and it has helped me become a better artist. Creating features, educational articles and giving feedback has been amazing. My personal highlight is PhotographyGuide, where we have an amazing team and I couldn't have built the group without them. I have loved DA since the moment I joined, and it's become my online home!
Yuukon is synonymous with community. If you spend any time on DeviantArt, it’s likely you have seen her name attached to features, Daily Deviation suggestions, groups, and a variety of community projects. Her enthusiasm is infectious and she’s always ready to share her love for DeviantArt with anyone who will listen. Beyond this, her artwork is outstanding — from her stunning photography that transports you to seemingly unreal places to her writing that invites you deep into her soul, it’s easy to see why she’s beloved by so many! She is the founder of PhotographyGuide, which aims to help beginning photographers enhance their skills, and NaturesHaven, that features an abundance of incredible nature-themed artwork. She is constantly giving back and it is because of this that we are elated to present her with Deviousness for July 2018.
Yuukon's artistic skills have never ceased to amaze me. Not only is she a brilliant photographer, but she's also a very talented writer. Her gallery is filled with exquisite photos and touching writings that truly show her sensibility. By helping new photographers with her feedback and tutorials, by supporting other deviants with her regular features, Yuukon has done so much for the DeviantArt community that it is a pleasure to see her receive this Deviousness Award. Congratulations, Monique!
I first met Monique through her beautifully curated features, which I follow with great anticipation. Her dedication to promoting the work and talent of others is not only incredibly inspirational but also infectious. Later I discovered her own diverse art gallery and was blown away by her skill and a keen eye for beauty. The fact that she points it not only through her lens but also selflessly at others, that she always strives to help fellow artists grow and the way she gathers people around her through her kindness and enthusiasm is exactly what I think deviantArt community is and should be all about.
I first met Yuukon on DA a few years back but I've truly come to know her through her work at my AnimalsPlantsNature group. She has been a complete rockstar from the moment she joined our team and quickly cemented herself in as a valuable and irreplaceable team member! Her passion and dedication to the DeviantArt photography community are evidenced clearly by her enthusiasm and willingness to help in any way she can. She is approachable, friendly, and takes beautiful nature photographs, all of which help showcase her as a model community member and someone that the newest member to the oldest veteran can get to know easily! I am beyond thrilled that she has been awarded Deviousness, it is truly a well-deserved accolade. Congratulations, Yuukon!
The first time I viewed one of Monique's photos was during the submission process in one of my groups. Needles to say, I was blown away at the intimate connection to nature her photography made me feel! Commenting on what my heart felt about her work, grew into a special relationship. She is one of my most cherished friends on DA! Always willing to help give great artist advise, as well as being a good listener. Thank you Cupcake for being one of the Sweetest people I know!
Yuukon and I were fast friends. She's a caring, helpful, cheerful and a positive individual so naturally, I extended my friendship to her and her to me. I sometimes feel like she is a superhuman given the fact that she manages to write meaningful critique and feedback on deviations, she's actively part of this movement called ProjectEducate that extends a helpful arm to all deviants and imparting vital information about DeviantART, she founded the group PhotographyGuide that aids beginner photographers as well as seasoned photographers with tips, tricks and helpful feedback, she also features deviants in her journal as part of her weekly journal ritual. HOW IS SHE MANAGING ALL THIS!? To top it off she's a brilliant photographer and an occasional writer. It's always a pleasure walking down Yuukon's gallery, there isn't a single piece that hasn't left me smiling. I can't think of anyone else who would deserve this accolade more. My heart swells with joy that this community recognizes her countless efforts. Congratulations, Yuukon! I can't wait to see more creativity from you.
I met Yuukon through her beautiful images of nature: animals, flowers, landscapes ... and then all the rest! But what I can say about her is that she is a truly important member for DeviantArt, even more, today when other social networks are vying for peoples attention -- she is always active! Thank you for all the work you do for our community Yuukon
Let me begin by saying that you, Monique, are a star! The sheer amount of artistic output from this masterful writer, and immensely talented photographer is nothing short of amazing. A conspicuous presence in the DA community, Monique continues to inspire with her wonderful personality and generosity. No, seriously, just look at her awesome journals/art features! I could go on, and on... but I'll just end by saying that you, Monique, are a star!
I'm very glad we have Monique in the photography community. She is one of those people you can really count on to help you with projects or discuss ideas with. You can tell she really loves the community and wants to give as much as she can. She puts a lot of time, effort and thought into what she does on DeviantArt, and aside from that is also a superb photographer. I love having her as a part of CRPhotography, and don't know what I'd do without her contributions to the group and the photography community as a whole! So I'll take this as my chance to thank her for everything she has done and continues to do.
I am definitely a fan of Yuukon aka Monique. She has a beautiful gallery with quality work and is a great member of the community. Working hard at sharing great art she finds on DA by creating fantastic features and spreading the word of ART continuously. I love her "Expose the unexposed features" ~ "Photography Guide Features" and "Colour me creature features".Monique always has positive feedback, is very patient, kind and good hearted.
Yuukon's enthusiasm for the community at large is infectious to say the least! She is very involved in behind the scenes work with numerous groups and I am so happy to see her receive this award. Her hard work is not going unnoticed! Yuukon is one of those people that you know is a genuine person and looks for the best in others. Congrats Monique! Can't wait to see what else you will accomplish on the best site on the internet
Yuukon's Art is full of life, it speaks from the heart ! Her words and creative imagery, take me to remote forgotten places in my head. I love it !I'm greatful for members like Monique that create a beautiful sense of community in DA Her Gallery is an Amazing Artful Journey !!!)
Yuukon's kindness and enthusiastic love for DeviantArt and the community are inspirational. Not only is she a talented photographer, she is also always looking for ways to give back and raise up other artists with her support! From her countless features to comments to DD suggestions, she seems to be everywhere at once spreading love within the community.
Yuukon is a wonderful joy to be around! There's few people quite as dependable and sweet as her.
Yuukon is not only a talented artist but also a great person. She is very active within the DA community, whether it is by showcasing her work, but also by leaving critiques and/or handling her group PhotographyGuide, being a moderator in other DA groups, commenting on works, doing features, promoting projects, sending DD Suggestions, writing various art articles and replying to comments and notes. All of that make her a very appreciated person on DA, considering how approachable and helpful she is. Congratulations on your well deserved Deviousness, Yuukon
Yuukon's presence on DeviantArt feels like a big, bright smile. Her enthusiasm and passion for the photography community on DA is beautiful and she gives so much through the groups she's involved with and the resources she creates, as well as her cheerful support of other artists.
Monique is a very special person! I believe I met her while running some projects together, and she always showed how helpful and dedicated she's always been to our community. She's sweet, loving, helpful and very honest; a wonderful human being who makes this world better just by her existing in it. Her artistic heart can create a vast variety of art forms, which include artisan crafts and literature, but it's for her amazing photography passion that I think she's better known around here. Once you visit her gallery you're captured in there. It's not easy to story-tell without words, and she succeeds in each one of her images. She inspires me in many, many aspects, and I'm SO happy to have crossed paths with her here; and to see her celebrated in this manner is a great JOY. Congrats, my dearest Yuukon, you go girl.

Community Project: #Daily5
Come one, come all! It's time for a community project.
Something many of us see on DA each day is community members asking for comments. Whether it's simply acknowledgement that they created something or genuinely wanting feedback on their art, true deviation comments can be hard to come by! I mean there is a LOT of artwork submitted here each day. If you don't have a large watcherbase, it can be hard to get attention for yourself and your art. There are a lot of comment-oriented projects on DA and that's awesome. I am hoping to keep the momentum going with this new project.
I would like to challenge all of you to take 5-10 minutes each day (or as many days as you can!) to leave only five (5) comments on others' deviations. Commenting gives attention to others but can also bring some attention right back to YOU! Plus, commenting can be a great learning experience for all involved.
ThumbHub May Contest!Come one, come all... It's time for the next ThumbHub contest! And you only have 3 weeks to get those entries in#thumbhub #contest #may2018
so MAKE IT SNAPPY!
Spring is a wonderful time of year, at least in the northern hemisphere. The weather is getting warmer, all signs of snow are vacating the area, and... dogs are shedding. That last bit may not be super grand but it was a good segway into the theme of this month's contest!
If you have spent any time in the :#ThumbHub: chat, you are probably aware that we are a large group of dog lovers. They come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and who does not love a good doggo hug?! Dogs are also known to be giant goofballs--similar to most of the ThumbHub users, amirite--and can end up in some pretty hilarious situations. Hence the theme of this month's contest:
Dogs in Awkward Situations
Yep. We want you to create artwork of any medium that is all about our four-legged friends in awkward situations. They may
DD Discussion chat on May 12Up to thirty-one pieces of literature are chosen as Daily Deviations. You may read them every day, or once in a long while, or perhaps you wait and look through the journal compiling them at the end of the month. After reading, you may leave a comment, add it to your favorites, or just move on without doing anything at all. What you probably do not do is discuss your reactions in detail with your fellow Literature Community members.
We are inviting you to do just that with us in #CRLiterature this Saturday, May 12 from 11am-1pm Pacific Time - see what that is in your time zone here. We will be discussing a selection of Literature DDs from the month of April.
We believe that discussion with friends and peers is
