Painting Process, step-by-step-ishI'm not sure if this will be interesting to anyone, but it's my general painting process, using that one random digital painting I made as an example P:
1. I drew the rough, black on grey, other times black on white. If the background isn't particularly important, I won't draw it in the rough I'll just go straight to painting it later. Each character is on a different layer, so that I can keep one "behind" the other guy.
2. I grabbed a few color palettes online and did some mix and matching to get a more custom palette from the colors I wanted. Then I filled in each character on a separate layer with a flat color. In this case I picked a purple for the main guy, and a blue for the spirit-guy since he's not really human. With a normal color scheme, I'd fill them both in a slightly different medium-dark red. The base color will bleed through so it can make a big difference between a more vibrant color and a duller one. I k
